On the First Night of Christmas... (Mills & Boon RIVA)

On the First Night of Christmas... (Harlequin Presents Extra)

ON THE FIRST NIGHT OF CHRISTMAS by author Heidi Rice, is a November 2011 release by Mills & Boon UK for it's Modern series.

Jace Ryan was Cassandra Firtzgerald's first teenage crush back in high school. Has she really grown over him? She is wishing for a candy-man for a sweet fling during Christmas. And she meets him, the bad boy from high school!

It was hilarious the way Cassie jumps into a stranger's car, eyes flashing, wanting to give him a piece of her mind. And then she realizes it's Jace. He takes her back to his hotel to clean up the mud he splashed over her clothes and they end up having a passionate fling! But it's for a week only.

What will happen after the week is over? Will Jace still want to see Cassie?
Jace doesn't believe in Christmas. When Cassie brings him a Christmas gift, he is stunned at receiving a gift for the first time in his life.

Will Cassie be able to hide her love from Jace?
In Jace's experience love hurt. It hurt the person loving as his mother was being hurt. It was messy, disappointing, complicated and unnecessary. He never planned to feel it. And he certainly doesn't know how to express it. He isn't able to articulate his feelings because of a childhood marred by violence.

I had grave doubts how the author would manage to get this two characters together for their happily ever after, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The growth and progression of the love between Cassie and Jace, though they, themselves are not aware at the time, is depicted in a natural flow which is emotionally satisfying. We know Jace loves Cassie, yet he doesn't realize it because he feels himself incapable of experiencing love.

The author has delivered a tortured hero, who doesn't believe in love, a strong feisty heroine, who ends up wanting the fairy tale love with all its frills and rolled them in a story that is filled with emotion and sizzle. Cassie and Jace's story is hugely enjoyable and highly romantic tale readers will find absolutely impossible to resist.

Redolent with breathtaking romance, spectacular emotional punch, a believable conflict and vivid atmospheric details, ON THE FIRST NIGHT OF CHRISTMAS is the latest high standard offering by author Heidi Rice.

Another must read! 13 Nov 2011

Heidi Rice is an automatic buy for me and when this popped up on my Kindle on November 1st it took considerable will power for me not to dive right into reading it.

However, I couldn't resist for long. I read this over three days, just because I really had no time to read, and I had to drag myself away from it every time.

Jace is a wonderfully tortured hero and you can immediately relate to Cassidy. How many times have you got splashed by some inconsiderate car driver going straight through a puddle and wished you could tell them exactly what you thought of them?

Well that is exactly what happened to Cassidy, and being the feisty lady she is, she jumps into Jace's car to confront him. She didn't count on Jace being Jace the Ace, she had a huge crush on during her school years.

When he invites her back to his hotel suite to have her coat dry cleaned, Cassidy gets more than she bargained for. She gets her very own candy man and they embark on a sizzling Christmas fling. Falling in love was not part of the bargain, but of course that is exactly what happens.

As is expected of Heidi, the sex scenes sizzle and the dialogue sparkles and I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of reading it. Jace is a hero to die for and I fell in love with him a little, I have to say :-)

I'm not ashamed to say that the ending brought happy tears to my eyes.

Fantastic Read 2 Dec 2011
By LAS Reviewer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Sometimes, Christmas wishes can come true, in the most unusual way.

Cassidy Fitzgerald makes her yearly visit to gaze at the Christmas window at Selfridges, wishing her love life could be as perfect as the display. Nine months before, she broke off her engagement when she arrived home to find her fiancée on the couch with another woman, in a very intimate position.

Cassie is not looking forward to spending the holiday alone, for the first time in a long time. Just as she turns to head home, an inconsiderate driver splashes her and she has had enough. No more taking what life dishes out, she jumps into the stranger's car and gives him a piece of her mind for his actions. But she is stunned to see that the man driving is her grade school crush Jason Ryan-Jace the Ace! He offers to get her coat cleaned, and the new Cassie decides to take a walk on the wild side for a holiday fling with Jace. She'll be fine, as long as she can keep her heart out of the equation, right? Can Cassie stay detached and just have ten days with Jace, knowing there's no future? Or can she show Jace love doesn't have to be painful?

Heidi Rice has written a sweetly sexy romance, with broken dreams and new love, all wrapped in a big holiday package. The characters here are well defined, people you feel like you already know. The idealistic romantic and the successful but bitter former bad boy, meeting again after fourteen years. This is the real world of holiday London, and it is clear Ms. Rice knows her location very well, and has included the reader in the unfolding events.

Cassidy `Cassie' Fitzgerald is determined to change. She is tired of being treated like a doormat by the men she chooses, and decides to have a holiday fling. With the encouragement of her friend Nessa, she embarks on her search for a `candy man' but never expected to run into her old teenage crush. Jace still sends tingle to all the right places, and she decides to explore this new side of herself, aiming for a no strings attached one-night stand. She didn't expect her heart to become involved.

Jason `Jace the Ace' Ryan is in town for one reason: to sell the online business he owns with his ex-wife, so he can finally get her out of his life. The last thing on his mind is a hook up with any woman, until Cassie literally jumps into his rented car to yell at him for his thoughtlessness. Jace was the sexy bad boy back in school, and he is still handsome, sexy and reckless, but even better equipped to handle life. He is attracted to Cassie, and convinced he can have a holiday fling without either of them ending up hurt.

This is a fast paced romance, and things heat up quickly between Cassie and Jace. When Cassie disappears after their night together, Jace tracks her down to convince her to spend the holiday with him. The story heats up here, and there are some wonderfully sensuous scenes between them. I loved watching the progress of the relationship, as Cassie keeps trying not to fall, and Jace convinces himself he isn't falling either. The typical holiday activities take on a delightful turn, as Cassie takes Jace shopping, and to a get-together of friends for Christmas. There were some very tearful moments, as well, where I worried for the happy ever after of these two, but I was delighted to see finally happened between them. I recommend this one to be read with a box of tissues at hand.
