Product Description

Review

I've not come across a series of book aimed at both children and adults in this way and think it's a good idea. (School Librarian, v.49, Spring 2001 )

A good introduction to the topic, from which you can start and build on your dialogue with your daughter.

My daughter is 6 years and I found this book helped her to talk to me about her friendships at school. It has nice drawings of children and is easy for a 6-7 year old to relate too. It shows drawings of children in various school and play situations and the dialogue gives related information for a child that maybe experiencing a bullying situation or even a child that maybe bullying another child. This book is part of a series called M.Y.Bees which takes a first look at friendships and bullying.

Bought this book to help a friend's son who was being picked on at school by the class bully. Before handing it over, my daughter (also 7) picked it up and was quite interested in reading it and pointing things out to me. My friend tells me her son has referred back to this book several times now and has talked to her about the contents of the book both in general terms and in terms of his own experiences. She tells me this book has really helped him - can't say better than that.

A toolbook for dealing with bullies 24 April 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The issue of bullying is no longer considered simply a rite of passage in schools. a April 2001 study by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (within the National Institutes of Health) says that 16% of all children have been bullied by other children in their current school term. The authors of the report say bullying should be considered a public health problem.

That said, for any parent whose child has been bullied by another...it's a problem that can completely overshadow a child and a family.

"Stop Picking on Me" was a tremendous tool to help our 7 year old daughter. She has been bullied for 2 years by another girl at our school. Although the school tried to be responsive to our concerns, like most bullying, it often takes place where no one can see it.

We needed to help our daughter understand what was making this girl pick on her, and what she could do to protect herself. It is easy to read, and helps your child understand what makes a bully tick. My daughter said the illustrations really showed how she felt when she was singled out by the bully.

Thomas' book gave us a chance to really talk about what was happening at school, and how to deal with it. The most important lesson your child will learn is that it's okay to tell someone. The message is easy enough for a four year old to understand, but there's enough information here to spark a good discussion with an older child.

This book won't make a bully go away, but it will help you talk to your child about bullying and help give your child the tools and hopefully the courage to stand up to the schoolyard or neighborhood bully.

Not what I expected 19 Mar 2008
By Liz Watson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I bought this book to help my sons deal with a bully in preschool. I was disappointed that the book focuses so much on how the bully feels and not how it feels to be the bullied nor does it offer a child any method for dealing with the bully as the title would imply.

A wonderful resource for helping victims of bullies! 28 Mar 2008
By Sharon Sanderson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
My grandson is a "would be" bully; while my granddaughter is a perfect victim. Therefore, I bought the book to read to both of them...it worked! My grandson was infuriated that anyone would think about doing this to his sister, but I pointed out that he had done things similar to this to her. He hugged her and apologized.
Yeah! Great book!
