The First Lady Of Hip-Hop Soul, 21 May 2005
Faith Evans was made a household name in 1997 when she collaborated with P.Diddy & 112 on the tribute to her husband B.I.G. Little did people know her career started in 1995 with her debut "Faith" which had the smash it single "Soon As I Get Home". 10 years later Faith releases her 4th studio album after a 4 year hiatus she returns back on form with the soon-to-be classic album which is already certified Gold in the U.S thats 500,000 copies sold in jus over a month "The First Lady" is back!1.Goin' Out (Featuring Pharrell & Pusha T) - One of the highlights on the album this Neptunes produced track is one of the best up-tempo tracks shes ever done its a song about just going out and having fun it has a great beat accompanied by a rap by Pusha T of The Clipse possible single material 10/10 2.Again - The lead single which was a smash hit all over the world even reached #12 on the UK charts which i think is her highest solo position ever its got a nice sulty 70's vibe to it,its a really good way of gettin back at the media for sayin she had a drug problem beautiful vocals on this one 10/10 3.I Don't Need It - Middle Eastern-type beat at the start then it flips it into a soulful groove the lyrics are good and her vocals shine on this one too. It's dancable and is just a feel good song 10/10 4.Stop N Go - Faith dabbles in a bit of Neo-Soul with this track which stands as one of my favourite songs she uses basketball as a metaphore for her relationship with her man its a good song to just sit down and groove to the chorus is really nice its just a really nice soulful song 10/10 5.Mesmerized - Rumoured to be the next single its got a really great jazzy groove to it u cant help but tap your foot considering the popularity of this track this could be a sucessful single release lets hope so 'coz its criminal to ignore this track 10/10 6.Tru Love - To my suprise on readin the booklet i noticed Jermaine Dupri produced this song which i was really shocked because its nothin' like hes older productions (Usher's U-Turn, Jagged Edge's Where The Part At) its a really sweet song about her husband (forget his name now) i play this song alot 10/10 7.Jealous - Before the release of the album this was rumoured to be the 1st lead single instead on "Again" i dont think would have done as good as "Again" has but its a really reall good song we all feel like this u just gotta listen to lyrics it actually made me laugh 'coz the song just reminds me of myself. I'm loving the fluffy piano loop pure class! 10/10 8.Ever Wonder (Featuring Mario Winans) - Now lets recap Mario Winans had that #1 single "I Dont Wanna Know" as productions concerned nowadays he just doesnt change his style this song sounds like Tamia's Mr Cool & Guerilla Blacks tune its a good duet but its the weakest song i usually skip it 3/10 9.Catching Feelings - Great slowjam its very dreamy and floaty but..it just seems like a song Blu Cantrell dismissed not a favourite at all 5/10 10.Get Over You - Ahh we're back on track with great songs its got that Musiq Soulchild vibe to it airy and old skool nice vocals the lyrics arent the best but its a good song 8/10 11.Until You Came - My favourite song on the album why? well not only has it got that great old school soul vibe i can relate to this song 100% lol i actually felt a bit embarrased listenin to this as its so much like me especially wen she starts talking half way through 10/10 12.Lucky Day - Its all about the beat with this one love the bass who ever's playin it are talented does make u wanna get up and dance 9/10 13.Hope (Featuring Twista) - Its a bit over played now but i did used to really like it much better than the one on Twista's album with Cee-Lo 8/10 Top 5 1.Until You Came 2.Jealous 3.Again 4.Mesmerized 5.Goin' Out/Stop N Go If your a newcomer to Faith Evans this is a good introduction to her this is one of my favourite albums of the year so far hope she gets the recognition she deserves
