Thought provoking and life changing,
This review is from: First, Know What You Want - why goals don't work and how to make them (Kindle Edition)
I met Andrew 6 years ago when he advised me on "Starting My Own Business". Following his subsequent regular emails I became aware of his ebook "7 ways to Figure out what you want". Reading that book and completing the exercises made me realised that I did not want to "start my own business" as there were other goals that I wanted more.Since then I have slowly worked through his book "First know what you want". It is full of gems and is of value personally and when advising others. For example, using the "what you don't want" technique with my daughter resulted in her quickly finding her dream job. She now uses her qualifications and experience to teach music to underprivileged children 2 days/ week and has time to spend with her baby son. The book is well written with "bitesize" chunks of theory and support exercises. Andrew's website and blogs consolidate the learnings in an interesting way. I have purchased the Kindle version which is installed on my smart phone. Initial bugs have now been resolved (e.g. lack of contents links). This acts as my portable bible. In particular I use the links in the table of contents to quickly remind myself of particular techniques.

I don't tend to read a lot of personal development books, but I've (somewhat sceptically) started to read a few recently. This is the first such book that hasn't left me feeling even more frustrated after reading it.I'm at the point where I keep saying to myself, "I can't keep doing this for much longer, I need to do something different with my life", but while I'm clear about what I don't want, I've been really struggling to figure out what it is I DO want. The motivational / personal growth / self-help books I've read prior to this tended to assume I knew what I wanted already , and I just needed some encouragement or techniques to progress me towards my goals. This book fills the gap, helping you figure out what it is you want in the first place. I really appreciated the way the book details a large variety of approaches/techniques to help you figure out what you want. If one isn't working for you, just move on and try another. And another, and another. By the end of the book you've approached the question of 'what do I want?' from so many angles that it gives you a very robust answer. The analogy of the polar bear really struck a cord with me, I'd been wondering why there was a bear on the cover of the book, and it was worth the wait. I won't spoil the surprise, I recommend you buy the book and find out for yourself.

Mind Altering,
This review is from: First, Know What You Want - why goals don't work and how to make them (Paperback)
I defy anyone to read this book without it changing their life. For the first time, in the privacy of your own mind, you will be challenged to identify what is really important to you. Amazingly most people can spend an entire lifetime chasing the wrong target and becoming ever more despondent. Reading this book will enable you to focus on what it takes for you to achieve balance and happiness, so throw out the soup, stop moving the cheese and take control of you.
