My own children always loved this story, joining in with the easy-to-remember repeated part: "Not I, said the cat, Not I, said the rat, Not I, said the pig", so I was looking forward to sharing this old favourite with my three year old granddaughter when I ordered this copy. Sadly, although the book looks nice, the text has been 'updated' so much that it has different verbs and various extra adjectives, different every time, which make it virtually impossible for a child to join in. For example, "Not I, yawned the sleepy, stripey cat, Not I, sniffed the sleek, skinny rat" and elsewhere, "Not I, called the curled-up, stripey cat, Not I, giggled the gleeful, pink pig". Surely the simple repetition was what let the child enjoy the story? I won't buy another one of these without checking the text inside, sorry Amazon.
