This is one of a series of 'First Favourite Tales' that are perfect for little ones just flexing their new reading skills. My four year old nephew adores this book, especially the sly fox who leads the gingerbread man to a sticky end! Great fun for all ages.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Savage" ending put my daughter off! 21 Oct 2009
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
My daughter loves the story, the rhyme, and the main character - the Gingerbread Man. I love Ladybird books because the illustrations are so realistic and vivid, but in this case, its a drawback because the ending features an illustration of the sly fox opening up its mouth wide, revealing lots of sharp, ghastly teeth and very vivid details of the spots on its tongue, the ridges in its mouth cavity, etc. To put it simply, my daughter was actually a bit scared of seeing that picture and really isn't very fond of the book as a result. She never really wants to see the ending, and I've never found her browsing the book by herself out of her own accord, whereas she'd browse other books on her own. Prior to buying this, I'd never have guessed that she'd have such a reaction to a picture in the book. Perhaps I should have bought the Ladybird First Tales version. That series has tamer illustrations...
