5.0 out of 5 stars Great help 27 April 2013

Lots of little nuggets of information in this book as well as a step by step guide to a well structured essay. The author points to the importance of structure in an essay and it really is a lot easier to write an essay with this clear framework. If you're writing an essay you need to buy this book, it'll only take a couple of hours and will pay dividends.

EDIT: The essay I wrote shortly after reading this book was given an outstanding first class with 5/5 marks for layout! Many thanks to the author!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy for all students! 22 Oct 2012

The book is written in a format that makes the content easy to digest, and good too, because as the title suggests, this book will be a companion to all students serious about reaching the top grades. The essay writing process is broken down into clear identifiable stages, making assignment writing an easier and more straightforward 'roadmap' process. If you've already graduated, you'll wish this book had been available sooner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! 1 Oct 2014

Absolutely fantastic book, clear and concise guidance on how to write a great essay. I discovered this in the third year of my LLB and for every essay I used it for I gained a first class mark. The book is a manageable length, and gives plenty of essential information. It provides guidance on basic writing skills, which, many students overlook when writing academic papers. I also used the book as a starting point for all my LLM Masters papers, including both LLB and LLM dissertations. The structure worked perfectly as an outline, only needing a couple of additional bits specifically for Law. Honestly, my only regret is I didn't find it sooner!

Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Genuinely Impressed... 23 Oct 2012

As a lecturer at a red brick English university, I must say that I'm genuinely impressed with this little discovery. One of my students asked me to have a look at it to make sure that the essay writing principles it outlines were acceptable.

At first I was sceptical of the title. I would never recommend a student attempts to write an essay in 24 hours (although I'm aware that it is done by some of my students - sometimes to an exceptionally high standard!) but, having said that, the content of this book really, really impressed me.

The guidelines it sets forward - if taken on board - will certainly help students achieve first class marks. The vast majority of undergraduate and graduate marking that I do is spent penalising basic errors of poor structure and failures to answer the set question with sufficient focus and analytical detail. After reading this book I really think it provides a de facto method of avoiding those pitfalls and opening up the door (to steal the writer's analogy) to those top marks.

Additionally, it is written in a style that is highly accessible to students and not quite so dry and dense as some of the similar materials in our University library).

So all in all, very impressed. Would recommend to any undergraduate, postgraduate - and even an A-Level student wishing to get their essays in spotless order before university!

Hope that helps,

James.

I recommend this book to every uni student. It provides a very clear explanation of how to write a good essay.

Essentially, the structure is the most important part and this book goes in depth how long each part should be, what should be in it and how to link it all together.

You will also learn about referencing, the way a tutor marks the essay, and frequent mistakes.

Thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars ok 29 May 2014

Very useful information. As a mature student, with no A levels-but studying for a BA in Eng Lit, attaining 2.1 and 1st intermittently throughout the first year of a (BA Fasttrack) 2 year course... this concise, factual kindle book laid everything out simply. My 'hit and miss' attempts of earlier in the year came to 3 final assignments of 1st's. V pleased I invested the £3.95(most i have probably paid out on a kindle read and I have over 1000 books on my kindle). Hints and tips... plus guideline percentages of layout and content. Thank you very much M H-Eddison!

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended for All Students 10 May 2014

I was recommended this guide by a seminar tutor last year and bought it after receiving a couple of 2:2 marks. After following the guide I have recently had a load of essay marks back and five out of six were awarded first class, with the sixth receiving a high 2:1. My only regret is not getting it earlier. If you're in two minds, just go for it. I am studying Economics.

This book is good for those needing to get a quick and clear understanding of essay writing. The book gives clear guidance, it's a pity I didn't get it at the start of my studies.
