5.0 out of 5 stars a turning point for my wee boy 4 Feb 2011
By Jw Hart
I bought this book for my son when he was about 3 and a half and he loved it. There are LOTS of mazes in it so he did a lot in the first few days after he got it, left it for a few weeks, returned to it, left it, returned to it and has continued to do this for well over a year until it is finally complete. It has always been by his choice (I think the time will come soon enough when he will be compelled to do things for the sake of his education). However, using this book seemed to spark an interest in using a pencil that has quickly developed such that he seems to be getting on really well with writing now that he is at school. Finally, I don't suppose it has much to do with my son's enthusiasm but I would also observe that the paper quality is superb. Don't you just hate that brownish grainy stuff that so many kids activity books are made from?!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book 1 July 2009
This is a great book. My four year old is systematically working his way through every maze and loving it.

There is a maze on each page, each one is different and they come in a variety of formats. Some look like maps, some like celtic knots and so on.

They are all beautifully designed and the book as a whole has a nice feel, with thick paper and good quality print.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 24 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my 5 year old daughter as a gentle introduction to Kumon with a view of progressing to the alphabet and number books.

She loves it and is racing through it. There are around 40 mazes and one on each page.

The quality of the book is excellent and the mazes are really colourful. I had to drag her away from the book to get her in the bath - I'd highly recommend this book.

I also bought the cutting book which she also liked, but she seemed more enthusiastic about this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good first maze book 15 Aug 2014
The nice thing about this maze book is that unlike some maze books, the start and end of each maze are consistently indicated and the walls are clear, so for my 3 year old, he doesn't need any explanation or help as to what to do with each maze. Each 'sheet' has one picture maze (e.g. a race track with cars etc.) and one more abstract maze. The latter are quite a bit harder than the former and although the book ramps up in difficulty fairly well it is a bit strange how it alternates back and forth between the two. The first abstract mazes in particular are quite tough for a child doing mazes for the first time.

It is a nice book though and better than the other maze books I've seen - it is fairly expensive however for a book that, when my son finally got into mazes, he whizzed through in about an hour. I'm umming and erring about whether to buy more of the kumon maze books as a result - but this was definitely a good first one to get him into mazes for the reasons mentioned above.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun pencil workout 4 Aug 2009
My 3.5 yr old son is really enjoying this book. having shown little or no inclination in the direction of using or holding a pencil, he is now racing through this book. What I like is the way the book actually encourages you to do each maze several times using different coloured pencils. I would never have thought of that and it makes it better value for money. The paper is good thick quality and the mazes are on the front and back of each page. It has really got him using a pencil and starting to hold it better too, as he can see that he has more control when holding it properly.
