bad design and skimpy on the magnetic pages 3 Feb. 2012
By mom - Published on
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I was excited at first, and my 2.5 year old even more so.

This excitement soon turned to frustration.

Pros: the animal, people and 1 boat magnets are already cut out. & The drawings/depictions are cute/colorful.
Some magnets are obviously story specific but some (people for example) are generic enough to use in many stories.

Sadly, that's where the pros stop.

Cons: The sliding panel mechanism by which you store and retreive the magnets. I have difficulty doing it much less a 5 and 2.5 year old. In fact, it tore within 3 minutes of opening/shutting it. I have devised another cloth "door" with a velcro latch to shut it. Much more durable.

The magnetic pages are not fully magnetic. The large fish is heavy and falls down on the page becasue the page isn't magnetic enough and the magnet doesn't 100% fill the display page space.
This causes many screams in frustration when the boys try to prop the book semi vertical to view their "story" only to watch all the magnets slide off the page.

The only thing preventing me from returning this is the magnets themselves are cute. I have another magnet board that they can be used on.

Great idea for keeping kids busy 30 Sept. 2012

I love magnetic books because they keep my toddler busy during church assemblies. The only complaint I have about this one is that only one side of the page opening is magnetic, and the magnetic material on that page doesn't extend all the way to the page edge. You know how hard it is to tell a toddler that he can only put the magnets on this side and not too close to the edge or they'll fall off? We've had to gather dropped pieces off the floor several times. Otherwise, I like the concepts of the magnetic books and they get a lot of use in our household.
Great quality book 3 Aug. 2014

Such a cute bible story book - my kids love using the magnets to act out the stories - stories are short and simple. Only drawback is keeping track of all the magnets and also it isn't always clear which are for which story - would be nice if there was some guide or on each story it showed which magnets were needed - we figure it out mostly
Mostly great 31 July 2011

My 3&5y/o really like this book. While the magnets can be stored in the book, that sliding flap broke early on. We just keep the magnets in a separate plastic container. It doesn't affect the stories or play at all and the kids enjoy matching the magnets with the stories.
cute idea 2 Jun. 2013

This book is a cute idea, but the magnets are very weak. They are easily lost unless the child (and parent!) is very careful to always put the magnets back in the front pocket.
