Product Description

Product Description

Firewall hacking secrets for security professionals enables both penetration testers and security professionals to plan and execute better testing of firewalls.

Unlike most 'hacking' books, we discuss all aspects of testing a firewall covering the scope of testing, expectations, policy and process reviews, design, strategy, implementation, operational support, third party managed firewalls and more.

Using the information provided, you can create a more meaningful scope for your test plan which is both relevant and ensures the results of the testing are much more trustworthy reducing the risk of having a false sense of security from poor testing or test plans.

Anyone considering testing firewalls, wether they are a penetration tester, hacker or security manager will benefit as the book provides a minimum list of items to consider for testing, you can be confident that your testing is not only good quality, it can also help evaluate the quality of the testers being hired or ensure any in house testing is conducted to a reasonable standard too.

Finally, the book is 'vendor neutral' with a summarised checklist for easy test plan creation which can be modified accordingly for any scenario or solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Firewall testing :) 2 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
If you would like to know about firewall or get an understanding, I would recommend this book. The part I like the best is "what this book is not" most books dont tell you after you read the entire contents and then figure out "why did i buy this book?"

5 stars for straight to the point and no beating round the bush...worth getting !! Thank you to the author!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brief but interesting 24 Feb 2013

Interesting little book aimed at pen testers and those hiring them. Interesting for the lay-person too, for someone looking for an insight into this secure world.

Whether you are a relative newcomer to penetration testing or a seasoned security professional you'll not be disappointed. This eBook provides an insightful look into what exactly is required for managing and auditing firewalls from initial design right up to implementation.

In the book the author pulls no punches in highlighting the fact that customers are invariably short changed by some companies providing sub-standard testing which ultimately put their businesses at risk.

One of the criticism of other firewall books, is that they tend to focus on one particular vendor (Cisco, SonicWALL etc), this book is vendor neutral which is very beneficial for companies that use many different types of firewalls in their estate.

If you provide penetration testing or audit firewalls, like myself you may come away reviewing your current testing methodology and include some of the recommendations and advise provided by the author.

As hinted in the book, this is the first in a series. I very much look forward to the next subject if it's as informative as this read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Even for $4.00 26 May 2012

Ok, if this was titled "An Overview of..." it would be more accurate. Content is non-existent, and too general to be of any help.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor 18 Dec 2012

It is not worth even the four dollars it costs.
No content whatsoever. Don't be misled by the title: there is no secret and it is not useful to a security professional.

I would ask back my money, if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Resource for IT Security Professionals 28 April 2012
By ChirosTech - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is useful for security professionals and business owners, big and small. It is a detailed resource for those who need to configure their firewall, from a small business environment all the way up to large corporate networks. Mehmet also focuses on general firewall configuration rather than the specific vendors. In fact, the book even alludes to the fact that multiple vendors are encouraged when available. The only complaint that I have is that other resources referenced in this book are not yet available, a problem that I hear will soon be remedied, thus unlocking the full potential usefulness of this book. As a professional pentester, the author creates an excellent checklist that is foundational for firewall pentesting in corporate environments, and I can't wait for more e-books to come. Whether you are a professional pentester, or a business owner needing help navigating the complexities of firewall configuration, this book is for you.
