In ancient times, kings would have everyone who constructed their primary defenses killed, and that was undeniably a pretty effective way of keeping anyone from discovering a backdoor entry into the castle. Obviously, things have changed a great deal since then, but it's still a fact that the biggest potential threat to any leader, company, or business is the guy who designed the security system. Crooks are well aware of this very thing, which brings us to the movie Firewall.

Harrison Ford plays Jack Stanfield, the network security chief at a medium-sized bank. After spending many years doing everything he can to protect his customers' data, he suddenly finds himself on the other side of the firewall when crooks take his wife and children hostage and demand he help them steal the bank blind by transferring a cool hundred million out of the accounts of its wealthiest customers. With his loved ones' lives on the line, he has little choice but to comply with their demands. Kept under constant surveillance and oftentimes accompanied by one of the conspirators, he has to go about his daily business, acting as if everything is fine, while trying to figure out the best way of bypassing his own security setup. Eventually, of course, he fights back, setting the stage for a rather action-packed ending.

The whole robbery plan is pretty darned elaborate. These guys would have needed to rob another bank just to be able to afford all of the equipment they put to use on this job. I definitely would have asked for more than 100 million dollars if I was the one who put the whole plan together.

Say what you will about the film's lack of originality, but I found Firewall to be a pretty exhilarating thriller.

I am fed up with films showing unnecessary levels of violence and excessive bad language. This is an action thriller worth watching, well acted and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Watch it.

I enjoyed watching this movie simply because I am a Harrison Ford fan, although I agree to certain extent with the other reviewers, concerning the pridictability of the story line, and the weak plot, but just imagine; you are watching this movie some years ago being acted by the then younger "Ford"...I am sure every one would have gone mad about it! Though I wish if "Ford" would now move to act his age. Having said that I still feel this was a very watchable movie and deserves four stars

If you are looking for a good thriller, not too violent/swearing, good paced and keep you hooked then Firewall delivers. Harrison Ford plays a fairly stereotype role for him, succesful husband, with kids then something goes wrong and he ends up embroiled in a situation and needs to save his family. The plot starts off quite well but lacks certain depth, before tailing off into a rather unlikely sequence of putting bank's money ahead of his family, before building to a non inspiring finale. Predictable ending with police car arriving right on cue, kind of sums up the movie. It's highly predictable for the most part, and the baddie doesn't have much of a scary edge, but it is still an equally enjoyable thriller that unless you are a really fussy film buff, should leaving you feeling you have seen a good entertaining film.

Just watched this film and thought it was much better than I expected. I have seen all Harrison Ford's previous films and this is as good as them. It was a bit predictable but very enjoyable all the same. The action was brilliant and so were the family scenes. It has all been done before but there a lot of films worse than this out there.

HF is head of IT security at a bank - robbers hold his family hostage while they orchestrate a perfect robbery. This time they pick on the wrong man, as HF fights back to protect his family and stop the bad guys.

Sounds good but sounds a little bit to similar to other "HF saves the day" films. And that is just what it is - BUT if you like that kind of film which I kinda do then it is perfectly watchable and does succeed to entertain though don't look for any hidden surprises or twist to the plot 'cos they are just not there. It does kind of run out of steam towards the end though and doesn't resolve all the issues that HF creates along the way.

I'm sorry, but i really liked this film. On the onset, yes, it looks like a predictable thriller with 2D characters and a daft plot. And yes, thats what it is. I won't deny it. A brave attempt is made to give layers to one of the henchmen, but it was unnnecessary. You have to take this for what it is, and when you do, it shines. Harrison Ford is brilliant; perfecting the 'wounded family man' and bringing emotion to this film. He also performs all (but one) of his his own stunt bits (watch the finale, the camera makes a point of getting his face in all the shots) and its done just right; - simple, don't make him do stuff a man of his age shouldn't be doing, and when he does something nuts, make him look as if he hurts...it really works. Similarly, don't expect anything other than a terrific villain from Paul Bettany and you'll be happy. Throw in some really silly dialogue "You get your money...when i get my family!", some silly gadgets, 24's Chloe, Robert Patrick and what do you get? You get a silly action film that tries to be nothing else. Absolutely brilliant.
