In 1995 I bought the trilogy of the above books. Wonderful epic of one family through a century and the changes in that region of France during this time.

5.0 out of 5 stars First book of a wonderful saga 30 Jan 2007
I enjoyed the story of the Vialhe family very much. This is the first book in the series. I'm not sure what the names of the others are in English. There are 4 books in the series now. I have read the 2nd and 3rd in French and plan to read the 4th as well. The saga follows the Vialhe family through 3 or more generations from 1900 to the 1960's and later? I haven't read the 4th book. They were farmers in the area around Brive in south-central France. The older son stays on the farm, but younger ones move on to other occupations. A very engaging tale of family love, loyalties, pride and predjudice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely book, first of a trilogy 27 Sep 2011
What a wonderful read. Un-put-downable from the first page. A fantastic story telling about life in rural France starting in 1899. Historically accurate, it reads like a real-life story.
