This album is in my top ten list of reggae albums I have heard.Originally released in 1981 (the year I was born), it is great to see it reissued by Greensleeves. I have bought alot of their reissues so far but this is my favourite. The harmonies are amazing, so it's no surprise to hear that they learnt alot from people like the Wailers and Joe Higgs. In fact they can be heard singing backing vocals on the original version of Trenchtown Rock by the Wailers. But luckily the music is fantastic too.Played by possibly the best session musicians from Jamaica during the 80's, the Roots Radics.Excellent production by another important figure of 80's reggae, the great Henry "junjo" Lawes.Mixed at King Tubby's by the Scientist, you can hear on his album Scientist rids the world of the curse of the evil vampires, that he took alot of the music from this to form the dub foundation for that excellent album, so I recommend that too.In fact it's almost like a companion album.
This album contains the classics Firehouse Rock,Run Dem Down,Oh What A Feeling,Kingdom Rise Kingdom Fall and Act of Affection. These tracks are my favourites but the others by no means let them down.I recommend this to anyone who wants an accessible introduction to reggae and to anyone who is looking to expand on their current collection.
I would also check out other reissues by the Greensleeves label such as Keith Hudson-Rasta Communication,Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus-Rastafari,Scientist-Rids The World...,Dr Alimantado-Best Dressed Chicken In Town etc.And if your looking for more by the Wailing Souls try Wild Suspense.

Timeless classic from the golden age of reggae, ahead of Wild Suspense in my humble opinion as the Wailing Souls' greatest record. Title track and 'Kingdom Rise, Kingdom Fall' the highlights, but not a duff moment amid the wonderful harmonies and body-wiggling rhythms.

Only ever had this on an LP so getting the full 12" version was nice, as was the price - long live vinyl

Truly awesome body of work that any reggae collection should have. Timless harmonies over tough Junjo productions. A must have in any format but particularly partial to vinyl.
