Product Description

Tyrus of Kenatos has made it his life’s work to banish the plagues that ravage the kingdoms. He believes the answer to ending the devastation lies in the Scourgelands. Yet, Tyrus’s first expedition into the cursed woods failed after being defeated by mysterious minions who stalked and killed most of his band.

Now a prisoner in his own tower, Tyrus has summoned his nephew Annon—a Druidecht possessing innate magic called the fireblood—on the guise of finding a hidden treasure with which to purchase his twin sister Hettie’s freedom. But in reality, Tyrus is using his niece and nephew, and their magic, as an opportunity to escape and resume his desperate mission. And to aid them, he has enlisted the warrior-monk Paedrin—who is almost as green as the siblings when it comes to traveling these troubled lands. The trio is determined, and along the way they grow to trust each other—and new additions to the group—in order to accomplish their missions…whether or not those missions are one and the same.

But the Arch-Rike—ruthless ruler of Kenatos—has learned of these plans, and has sent the fearsome Kishion to destroy all those that oppose him. Now Tyrus and his unwitting allies must face down not only the plague, but this new enemy—and fulfill their quest before a fresh horror is unleashed on the world…

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally not worth the money or time 22 Jun 2013
By S. Kolb
Format:Audio Download
The synopsis sounded great and I was really looking forward to listen to a good fantasy book again after reading the positive reviews. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a complete disappointment.
The characters are extremely flat and unlikable. The worst being Annon, the main character, who seems to have absolutely no redeeming quality whatsoever and whom I nicknamed "Annoy" less than 1 hour into the audiobook because he seems to have been built straight from the flat-pack-anti-hero-stereotype box.
The worst and most boring bits are the long-winded philosophical ramblings on every second page that seem to leech the pretty non-existent pace quicker than a weasel sucking eggs. I really wanted to like this book, but I cannot stand to listen to it for more than 10 minutes without starting to feel bored or truly sleepy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most excellent adventure 16 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Slightly slow to start. Took me a while to come to grips and enjoy the new characters. I was constantly trying to piece them together like a jigsaw with the previous books and story line. If reading this, make sure you start with the first set of books.....and enjoy the wonderful adventure to come. Exciting, sometimes heart stopping but always a grand adventure. (Off to search for next book and praying he has already written it!)

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the ending? 20 July 2013
By Firefly
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There is a minor skirmish in the arch-ryke's mansion yet no foray into the scourgelands. This big battle in the scourgelands never happens yet it is refereed to throughout the book. It really feels like an abridged version without an ending.
There are some really nice touches with some strong characters but the whole thing feels rushed and incomplete.
A shame.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good author but.... 12 April 2013
By Maybe
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this authors trilogy of Muirwood and appreciate he uses the history and folk tales from various countries for the padding around his stories and this does make them feel more real, however I have to agree with a previous reviewer, that using the Romani title without any attempt to hide who he is referring to to is ill advised and gives us an unpleasant glimpse of the authors prejudices. The Romani or gypsies in this book have few redeeming features and the story line is heavily weighted with tales of child stealing, theft and murder by the Romani. As a regular visitor to Eastern Europe, I am appalled by the treatment of the Gypsies, and stories like this go nowhere to alleviating prejudice. I see the story ending suggests a follow up, but I feel I wont be buying any more from the series.

Not a massive fan of fantasy books but I got this as it was promoted on an amazon email at a good price and I'm glad I did, looking forward to the rest of the series, hopefully it won't be too long for the next episode.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 13 July 2013
By Cosmo
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After reading similar types of books I thought I would give this a try as it was recommended however I find a bit boring and cliche in places. For me this did nothing to endear the characters and in terms of plot I was past caring before getting even halfway.

I thought the story good, but not very original. Also the book was not long enough for me to get into it either the characters or plot.
