Simply classic. Great riffs, superb melodies and strong production. Not a duff track on the album.
Bill Steer, former six-stringer with Napalm Death and Carcass, takes a more mellow approach, but still kicks ass like a trooper.
The album has hints of Free, Deep Purple and other great bluesy 70's rock dinosaur influences, all wrapped up in one gargantuan sound.
Bill sings with a whistful, yet strong voice one would not have imagined from a former death metal thrasher. Every track has a fantastic groove and melodies to boot.
All writing credits go to Steer, but this feels very much like a 'band' release rather than a solo project.
Great to see him back after a long spell of inactivity, with an album that proves whatever style he chooses to play, his unique brilliance always shines through.

I thought I was getting the Firebird Suite by Stravinsky. What I got was indescribable rubbish. I was unwell at the time and could not be bothered to send the unwanted disc back.

Whats the point???,
Its all been done before, every one of Steeers riffs has been nicked, rehashed. Its not origional in the slightest. Boring predictable solos.
If you like hard rock from the early 70's, get some T2, Leafhound or Edgar Winter- even though its over 30 yrs old, sounds fresher than anything firebird can produce.

The Finest Rock Album By a European band in Aeons 3 Aug 2000

Firebird is the new project of Bill Steer who used to be in Carcass and Napalm Death!
These bands aren't usually my thing but Carcass were a cult band years back and their guitarist, Steer was acknowleged as being ridiculously talented.
So, he has returned in the company of bassist of Cathedral and drummer of Spititual Beggars. Result = Firebird - a great sounding band who play songs straight out of the Hendrix/Cream/Thin Lizzy/Free textbook of music and it is just plain fantastic. This IS a bona fide classic rock album. By that, I mean every track kicks. The guitar work is inspiring and the rythmn section doesn't know when to stop. In fact, the whole band sound like they are loving every second of what their doing. Standout tracks are impossible to pick, but my personal faves are "One Trick Pony", "Raise a Smile" and "Caught in the Quagmire". Awesome.
Bill Steer... What can I say? 5 Nov 2010

First release from Mr. Bill Steer post-Carcass. If you like bluesy melodic rock ( Badlands w/ Jake E. Lee, Blue Cheer 2nd or 3rd LP, Black Crowes, etc. ), you will probably dig this. If you're expecting some Carcass or Napalm Death... steer clear ( no pun intended ), this won't fill that grind urge. This is straight out rockin' blues with great vocals and superb musicianship.
