Well to start with it is a small and compact unit which features an in-built battery which can last up to 10 years so no need to worry about it dying on you in the middle of the night just remember to replace the whole unit when the low battery "chirp" noise is heard within 7 days.

The button in the middle doubles as a reset button to turn the alarm off but also as the test button, to test it you simply hold the button to start the alarm and vice versa to stop it. This is an Ionisation smoke alarm meaning it can detect "fast flaming fires" to quote the manual quicker than standard smoke alarms, which also means that you can strategically place it in your hallway and this 1 smoke alarm will virtually cover the whole house (placing it near your kitchen in the hallway is best and probably have a second upstairs). The alarm itself is very loud and i guarantee it will wake you up and having it in the house does give peace of mind, we also have the matching Carbon Monoxide alarm which is equally as good and important.

Product round up

PROS: sealed compact unit, built in battery lasts up to 10 years, low battery indicator, test button, LOUD alarm, well priced for what it is!

CONS: I fail to see any

VERDICT: EVERY home needs at least 1 smoke alarm and the bigger the house the more you will require, this is well made and is very sensitive, we tested it out by burning some paper about 5 yards away in our shed and it detected it. Ensure you place it as close to the ceiling as possible and sleep safe in the knowledge at night that your family is well protected!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and ESSENTIAL!!

Shocked after a problematic year of using this one and the other non toast version when they kept randomly going off once or twice at a time. I decided to test them with a smokey candle/cigarette and the darn things do not even work even though the flashing light made things appear normal. Customer service doesnt exist either so I would suggest staying away from them.

If you do have them please TEST THEM NOW...you can buy smoke testers or just stick a lighted cigarette close to them for a few seconds etc but TEST THEM NOW before its too late.

I got these free from my local fire safety inspection officer and will let them know.

There was a good comment that I should have let fire officer know. I didnt and its too late now as I threw them out sadly, but I should have done. Given the fact fireangel have not even bothered to reply to my concerns I would steer clear of them.

Google fireangel faults and there are many differing issues with the company products, incuding exploding alarms and their quality control clearly doesnt exist. The moral of the story is if in doubt leave it out. Stick with KIDDE products they seem to be a safer beat, we cannot take risk with this stuff. But again TEST THEM NOW if you do have them, and OFTEN.

The alarm is very easy to fit and there have been no false alarms. The unit is unobtrusive and does a good job for the price.

I test our alarms every month, and maybe that was a bit much for this ones battery, but I had expected a low power warning. One month it worked, next it was dead

I have replaced it with one I can replace the batteries on

It's easy to install, easy to test - and easy to turn off when you burn the dinner! No complaints.

Easy to install once you realise that you have to be very 'Definite' when screwing it onto the base plate.

Bought this to replace the identical one that the Fire brigade fitted and in which the battery had failed. Didn't want to put any more holes in the ceiling.

Fire brigade fitted one of these (so-610 model) and 10 year battery unfortunately failed after around 4 years. The scary thing was we test it frequently and the light flashes but when the battery went we had no warning other than when we went to test it, it didn't work. Didn't want to put any more holes in the ceiling so will probably be buying the same one again to replace it but seems expensive to have to replace full unit after 4 years so may opt for one with batteries I can replace.
