Book Description

New love blossoms and family loyalties are tested in the Scottish Highlands of 1568.

Caitlin Campbell has always enjoyed having things her own way as the sister of Niall Campbell, the head of her clan. Her strong will and fiery spirit add to her stubborn determination. However, she is about to discover that things can quickly get out of her control.

Darach MacNaghten's life has been far from easy. He seems doomed to cause pain to every life he touches. Despite being cast out of his own family, he is compelled to try to save them from extinction and restore their name.

Darach and Caitlin find themselves drawn together through circumstances beyond their control. Caitlin must decide between her attraction for this dangerous highlander and her family loyalties. Will Darach's plans lead to a deadly game that neither can afford to lose? Passion, romance, and the rugged Scottish countryside draw you into this tantalizing story.

    Synopsis

It is May 1568, and Caitlin Campbell has recently had her heart broken by a callous young nobleman. With a track record of not choosing men well, she meets Darach MacNaghten, whose clan has been outlawed. Not only is he everything Caitlin should be wary of, but he is a man of many secrets, none of which bode well for the Campbells. He comes to Kilchurn to free his imprisoned older brother, but when he realizes that his plan has no chance of success, he kidnaps Caitlin to hold her as hostage until his brother is freed. This plan, so simple on the surface, soon leads to a clash of wills between two proud, headstrong people. And the problems only worsen the closer Darach's plan draws to its unforeseen conclusion. Fans of Morgan's "These Highland Hills" series and historical fiction readers will enjoy this dramatic conclusion to the series.

Although it wasn't really boring to read, the story is very predictable, in fact it's the same like the previous 2 just with different main characters and slightly different locations.
The author didn't do a good job with her historical research. Now, I don't know whether it was in this book or the second of this series, but as an example: One of the meals served contained potatoes, which just can't be. In the 16th century potatoes were a a novelty, if at all, they were planted as a rarity in gardens, but not by farmers. True, it took over fast, but that only started in the mid to late 17th century.
    [...]
This book plays in 1658 .. the potato hadn't even reached the British farms then, not to mention the Scottish Highlands, so they were certainly not part of a normal daily diet. At that time they were probably worth their weight in gold.

To someone who is interested in history like I am, the books are very disappointing... the potato bit is just one little thing that doesn't fit and it sums up. Lack of historical information, the few bits provided are either wrong or rudimentary.

Also the stories are shallow and idealized.

For someone who is expecting just a tiny bit more than chaste kisses and embracing it is very lame. I am not even speaking about full scale sex scenes, but the author must have a quite low level of imagination when it comes to passionate love and longing.

An easy read but quite weak when compared to the previous 2. I really don't like some of the Americanisms the author uses!

3.0 out of 5 stars Plot predictable
AS well as predictable, the plot tended to be somewhat fanciful. The Christian content which I believed was to be present, was somewhat scarce
