After reading the negative reviews, I was hoping this book wouldn't be bad.... but it just got progressively worse and worse. Most of it makes no sense... it really does feel like Knaak is merely writing for a paycheck. Basically, I would call this book nonsensical filler--i can only hope part three returns to the mold of the first book in this series, which was actually quite good. Richard Knaak is a great writer and I have enjoyed many of his books, however this one is a stinker. I would advise staying away....

Was this book written by the same author as the previous one? Yes
Is the plot logical? Nope!
Do the events make sense? Nope and nope!
Several things bothered me - first, with every battle it's known in advance how it would end - whether a single combat or large scale, it's played out with the results well-known in advance. No surprises, no ingenuity, simply "going through the motions"
Second - so much stuff makes no sense! For example, the whole signet thing made me grown in frustration. I mean, it's like the author said "I want some fireworks, and logic be damned. I know, I'll use the signet to flip a mountain upside down! Why? Why not!". And there was soooo much more! People getting teleported all over the place and ending up at exactly the right place "by chance". C'mon!
One more thing - I hate it when DL writers diverge from the theme laid out by the core books. I mean, resurrection? Wizards who have such vast powers? Artifacts so powerful lying around for all to find (staff, signet, Fire Rose, the Shaman's powers, the Titan's blood magic...). Krynn was not built like that! Magic, while powerful is not meant to be thrown around like sand on the beach
All in all, a well-written book, with a 'orrible plot!

Considering how amazing the Minotaur Wars trilogy by Mr. Knaak was, this has been a severe disappointment thus far. Golgren was indeed a fascinating character, but this storyline...I don't know. One thing I loved about the Minotaur Wars was the politics, the intrigue, the backstabbing, factions scheming against each other, all during the planning and actual invasion of Silvanesti. This trilogy so far though...it's just typical fantasy, which can be great when written exceedingly well, but the plot is just not nearly as smart as the Minotaur Wars books. I would have liked the first 2 books of this trilogy much better if I was still 13.
I hate to start things and not finish them, but I'm really struggling to find a reason to even bother reading the 3rd book. I love Richard Knaak, but these books feel like he was just writing for a paycheck.
