Amazon.co.uk Review

Here's a film that only a Steven Seagal fan could love. Fire Down Below not nearly as good as Under Siege (the movie destined to remain Seagal's high-water mark), but not any worse than Above the Law. This time ol' Steve is an agent of the Environmental Protection Agency who's busting heads in Kentucky. He's on good terms with the local yokels (including Marg Helgenberger and Harry Dean Stanton), but locks horns with a slimy mogul (Kris Kristofferson) who's using abandoned mines to dump toxic waste. Along with an ecological message, Seagal serves up several broken limbs, cracked skulls, and bloody noses, and he even finds time to do some guitar picking with country boys such as Travis Tritt and Randy Travis. Once you've heard Seagal crooning a country tune, you'll be eager to see him go back to whuppin' the bad guys. --Jeff Shannon

This is an oddly underated movie from Seagal. It really has a great atmosphere to it, a simple but compelling plot and most importantly, awesome thrilling fight scenes from the 7th dan master of Aikedo, Steven Seagal! There is even a touching romance in this movie; and okay, a well known environmental message, but no environmental reminder is ever enough or a bad thing.
This is actually one of Seagal's best films, but just runs at a different pace to those prior to it. Seagal very much went downhill from here, unduely, BECAUSE he was giving people something slightly different and at the same time putting his own issues and concerns into his movies rather than making more no-brainers. It's unfortunate, as his other Eco-friendly film 'On Deadly Ground' is equally as good but also underated! As Seagal said himself, he likes to make movies that entertain but also move people forward into contemplation.
Personally, this is my favorate Seagal movie of them all.

I watched this last night in bed and was expecting a normal STEVEN SEAGAL film with plenty of action and a thin plot but this was the opposite - plenty of plot and not enough action. FIRE DOWN BELOW could of been rated a 15 and not an 18.

The story is: In the peaceful Appleachian hills of Jackson, Kentucky, the Earth burns. The toxins being dumped into abandoned mines could turn Jackson into a wasteland if no one stops it. EPA Marshal Jack Taggart will.

Steven Seagal is Taggart - his job is to ferret out those responsible for poisoning the land and when thugs try to take him out Seagal takes on another job (yes the job he is well known for - kicking people's heads in) but... there isn't enough of it and that's what people want to watch a Seagal film for.

But as things go this isn't a bad film but not one of his best (I guess this is where his career started going down hill into straight to dvd films).

So my final word is enjoy this for what it is and you won't be disappointed but just don't hype it up to be something it's not.

Tank you for reading my review.

One of Seagal's best 12 Feb 2002

Format:DVD
This is possibly the one Steven seagal movie I never tire of watching. Criticised by some for his eco-beliefs Seagal is at his best as an undercover EPA sent to investigate the death of his friend in a US backwater. Good action sequences and lot of humour make this a must-see film. Also touching is his relationship with the town outcast, Sarah. Kris Kristofferson gives a good performance as the dodgy businessman but it's Seagal who shines. Definately his best film since Under Siege.
