Product Description

When Derek Deacon threatens to kill Alex Fanning, his championship rival, rookie driver Aidy Westlake doesn’t put much stock in it – it’s typical of the intense competitiveness and aggression in their world. But when Fanning dies after making contact with Deacon’s car during a race, a conspiracy ensues: the TV coverage is edited and the police wind up the investigation without interviewing witnesses. Compelled to prove Deacon is the murderer, Aidy pushes for the truth and is drawn into a world of fraud, organized crime and murder.

Some people will kill to win.

What They Are Saying About Did Not Finish:

“Wood kicks off this new series with a streamlined narrative, a spot of believable romance and some deftly introduced tidbits about the British racing circuit. Think of Dick Francis’ early thrillers, especially Nerve, but with a lot more horsepower.”
— Kirkus

"A breathtaking finale will linger long in readers’ minds.”
— Library Journal

“Wood convincingly portrays Aidy’s awkward efforts at amateur detection as well as his gentle, tentative romance with the dead man’s fiancée, while entertainingly imparting information about the perils and exhilaration of single-seat Formula Ford racing. Dick Francis fans will find a lot to like.”
— Publishers Weekly

"It is filled with suspense and startling revelations, and is recommended.”
— CrimeSpree Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars Did Not Finish (Aidy Westlake #1) 15 Feb 2014

Wow.

Another incredible story from master storyteller Simon Wood.

The story opens with Derek Deacon threatening to kill his main rival Alex Fanning. The threat is heard by all and when Alex is killed in a collision with Derek a couple of hours later, everyone wonders if it was an accident or murder.

Disappointed with how quickly the police declare it a tragic accident and fail to fully investigate or interview witnesses, rookie driver Aidy Westlake decides to carry out his own investigation.

Although clearly intelligent, Aidy quickly finds there's a lot more to investigating crime than he thought. He is drawn ever deeper into the sinister and dangerous world of organised crime.

Time and again, Aidy finds his line of investigation leading to a dead end.

When he discovers someone has tampered with his own vehicle, Aidy is able to eliminate a a large number of suspects.

He knows that he will be risking his life, but has the perfect opportunity to discover who killed Alex Fanning.....

An early novel from Simon Wood, recently re-released on Kindle. The author's considerable experience and knowledge of motor racing is beautifully conveyed, resulting in a truly magnificent crime thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

I'm looking forward to reading Hot Seat very soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Race to the Finish 19 July 2011
Format:Hardcover
The advice usually given to authors (and would-be authors) is to write what you know." And that is just what ex-racecar driver Simon Wood has done. He has written a mystery with motorsports as the theme; sort of a Dick Francis novel on wheels, if you will.

It all begins the night before a big race when a nine-time champion threatens to kill his rival, who is in the lead to capture the title. When the rival actually is killed during the race under suspicious circumstances in a collision with the champion, Aidy Westlake undertakes to prove it was a case of murder. Throughout all sorts of hardships and dangers, he doggedly continues his mission, until the plot inevitably turns.

Filled with loads of details on the racing scene and the people and equipment that make it possible, the novel moves spiritedly apace. It is filled with suspense and startling revelations, and is recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy reading with good story line. 13 May 2014

Format:Kindle Edition
Don't know much about the racing world but it didn't matter. Simon Wood writes in a manner that is easy to understand in a story line that travels along at a nice rate. A tad far fetched towards the end, but was still a good story.
