This book "Mel Bay Presents Fingerstyle Guitar Collection by Seth Austen" is a must have book if you like the Modern Fingerstyle stylings of folks like Michael Hedges, Will Akerman, and the like. I had never heard of Seth Austen before I got this book, but you can bet that I will be keeping an eye on him.
There are 12 outstanding compositions in this book, and the CD also makes some great listening by itself. "Desert Winds' and "Brooklyn Rag" are two that will be worked on out of this book for sure! Seth uses a Midi controller on some of the tunes to great effect, and is a nice twist from the regular straight acoustic. All the songs are well arranged, and "The Computer Is Down" is a riot to listen to!
One thing it has that a lot of others do not is, along with an introduction to each tune, they have listed the Chords in diagram form for each tune....nice touch!
The Tab in this one is clean and clear, like a lot of the Mel Bay books. The CD is well produced, and is something that you can listen to just for the enjoyment of it. Overall, this will be a great investment of my time!
