Product Description

Product Description

Strings Series Music Books pride themselves on providing clear, concise and professional music tuition books. Our aim is to teach you what you need to know; no quick fixes and everything is presented with clear explanations, diagrams and audio.

Strings Series Fingerpicking Guitar is aimed at the guitarist new to the technique of fingerpicking or an individual wishing to consolidate their knowledge of the technique and augment their development by learning with a structured system.

Every new skill or piece of information is supported by clear explanations and either photos, diagrams or free downloadable audio.

There are also six short musical studies encompassing and expanding the techniques taught giving you an idea of how to use these new skills.
Here’s what you’ll learn...
• How to read notated fingerpicking examples.
• Whether you should use false nails, natural nails or just fingers!
• Warm-ups
• How to play the 30+ examples
• 6 unique fingerpicking patterns and the knowledge to expand them.
• How to play along with the provided backing tracks
• Suggested “real” songs to listen to and learn- all matched to your level of progression.

How Big Are the Books?
A common complaint among purchasers of “How to...” eBooks is that the description didn’t really give them a clear idea of how big the books were and they are invariably disappointed.
Strings Series Music Books are around 3000-4000 words (plus many music exercises) or roughly 50 pages when formatted in Word. Obviously page sizes vary on Kindle. I’m positive you won’t feel ripped off; if you do contact Amazon for a refund!

Free Audio Downloads? How does that work?
As I write this you are currently unable to download anything other than text based files via 3G onto your Kindle. So if you’d like to take advantage of the free audio downloads visit on a PC or Mac and you are then free to store them on your Kindle, iPod or other music player!

Who are you?
My name is Mike Taylor and I am a musician and teacher. Much of my music book writing knowledge was gained when I wrote a syllabus for my Professional Musicianship degree. I learned even more about teaching during my two years as a fulltime music theory, guitar, bass and drum teacher. I no longer teach fulltime as I’m working more as a musician but I continue to learn from the awesome musicians I meet!

More About the Author

Hi welcome to my author profile. I'm Mike Taylor and I work as a guitar player and teacher after completing a BA Hons in Professional Musicianship.

In my career I've been lucky enough to be teach, be taught by and perform with some awesome musicians and personalities which have shaped my teaching and playing style.

As a largely self taught musician I do realise that private music lessons aren't for everybody- be it time, money or personality. By using the Kindle format I'm really hoping I can help you develop in a pace and style that suits you.

I'm really keen to hear from you musicians out there so please feel free to get in touch- if only just to say hi.

Thanks and enjoy your music!

Mike Taylor

2.0 out of 5 stars Below Average Guiter Book 5 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is OK especially if you've just about progressed beyond the absolute beginner stage. Be aware though that the "free audio downloads" webpage no longer exists. This might simply have been the case when I specifically tried to download the examples that are mean't to accompany the book or it might be that the webpage really no longer exists. Either way I felt somewhat cheated hence the poor rating.

This is fine for entry level but I was looking for something more advanced. A lot shorter than I expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb value 17 Jun 2011

I bought this book after doing the beginner books in this series. Really nicely set out- the audio downloads are really helpful- some of the exercises get quite tough so it's good to have the option. I also like the suggested tracks to play- shame it doesn't teach them too but there's lots of exercises so maybe I'm being picky!

Short book but the information is presented well and the price is right. If you are just starting to finger pick notes, this is a reasonable place to start.

Great for $3.50. Very short with limited information.

You want to start fingerpicking guitar for real? Here's a tip: search YouTube for a fingerpicking song that you like. Watch the fingers of the musicians. Use your ears. Figure it out. It will take a long, long time at first, and you have to figure out and practice songs one chunk at a time, then put them all together, but that's what you have to do.

Bam, I just saved you $3.50
