Product Description

Product Description

Originally the featured vocalist with the Ted Heath Band, Dickie Valentine launched a solo career in 1954 (although he had released solo singles a year earlier) and within three years had become one of the biggest teen idols of the era: in 1957 he had to hire the Royal Albert Hall in order to accommodate all the members of his fan club that wished to attend his annual party. Dickie was to score two number one hit singles, Finger Of Suspicion and Christmas Alphabet, both of which are included here, and a further six top ten hits over the course of just three years. Although he stopped having hits when the 1960s arrived, he remained a popular live draw until his death in a car crash in 1971. This 22 track album contains all ten of the hits he registered between 1953 1956, as well as other key tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, it is Dickie Valentine 10 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
Running times 55 minutes and 53 minutes respectively. 40 tracks in all covering the period from 1952 to 1956. Snapped up by Decca in 1953 his chart hits were many during the mid 1950s after which he became less of a chart hit and more of an all round entertainer. Always a confident performer with an easy style he excelled at romantic ballads and faster tempo novelty numbers. The sound quality is excellent as one would expect from the original Decca recordings (with the exception of "Never" and "Lorelei" which he recorded for the Melodisc label). Produced by Colin Brown. As child actor Richard Bryce(his birth name) he appeared in the films Jack's the Boy (1932) and Lord Babs (1932).

Look out also for Dickie Valentine, One More Sunrise: The Pye Anthology, Castle Music, CMDDD930. This contains his complete Pye catalogue, which dates from 1959 to 1961.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Wanted 29 Sep 2010
Format:Audio CD
I myself had never heard of this singer but was asked to look for one particular song by my recently widowed mother as it held a special meaning for her. She had last heard it over fifty years ago and was beginning to think she had imagined it as nobody she has spoken to about it remebers it. Luckily the track list given on here for this album came in very useful as did the ability to play a clip of each of the tracks. The song she had been searching for for so long was on it as were many others that evoked very happy memories for her. It was offered at a superb price and arrived within a few days and to see my mother smile again makes me a very happy customer.
