5.0 out of 5 stars Fuji Finepix E550 Digital Camera 19 Aug 2005
    Verified Purchase
Wow what a bargain for a 159.00 (With Super Saver Delivery) you get a great camera, whilst not the smallest or lightest by any means, it certainly provides great pictures it all sorts of varying light conditions.
It has a lot of settings to play with, including Aperture, Shutter Speed & ISO (Film Speed?) too, it can even do Black & White photography for those of you who like that sort of thing.
And for people who like to be in full control they can go to a full manual mode as well!
Be Warned it won't fit into a shirt's pocket it will be a bit too bulky & heavy for that, so if your looking to do that then the F10 (more expensive!) maybe a better alternative.
I would strongly recommend you buy yourself a much bigger memory card at the same time either a 512Mb (512Mb will give you approx 338 shots @ 6MP) or 1Gb, as the 16Mb supplied is inadequate, also a case as well for that added protection.
It comes complete with 2xAA size Ni-mh batteries, and MAINS charger, but i would recommend you use the new Lithium AA batteries you can now buy for added stamina if your going to be doing a lot of shots, it also has a Hand Strap, A/V cable, USB cable which has a NON Standard fitting at the camera end so look after it & all the neccesary computer software on a CD-ROM.
I would suggest rather than use the camera's USB connection it's just as simple to pop the card out of the camera and into a card reader attached to your PC or take to a camera shop and get the photos printed as the cover over that and the A/V connectors could easily be lost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not possible at this price! 28 Jun 2005
Wow! When I found this camera for 80 less than other places, such as Jessops, I was astounded.
I have upgraded from a Samsung 3Mp camera. In comparison, this camera is off the scale. It is truely superb.
First thing you notice is that it is very comfortable in your hand.
Next, when you power it up, it is instantly ready for use. OK, it is about 1.5 seconds. My old one was so slow.
Not to forget that it is a 6Mp camera.
The screen is big and icons nicely laid out. Very easy to use.
It has a view finder that is actually linked to the zoom functionality (but not to Macro mode).
It can be just a point and shoot camera but there is so much more to it.
Such as Macro mode. It goes really close. On a packet of crisps, it went down to seeing just "alke" on a packet of Walkers crisps.
A sports mode that sets the camera up to catch fast moving things. My old Samsung would take a picture of something fast. Unfortunately, it would normally be the back of it not the front!
Plus, if you want to play with the settings yourself, there is a mode for that too.
So, it's quick, nice to handle and fully loaded. What more could you want in a camera? Not a lot. Combine that with the price and you can't go wrong!
    Only a few gripes:
No camera bag to stop it being damaged when not in use.
Only a 16Mb xD Card - This only holds 10 good quality 6Mp pictures! Not a lot of use.
Although, at this price, you can go out and buy these and still have money in your pocket.
Only other thing that I can say is "Buy it!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Camera, great price 13 July 2005
Incredible camera for the price. No wonder its Amazons best seller at the moment. Lots of features for the more serious photographer but just as handy for the novice in the point and shoot mode. The memory card shipped with it is virtually useless, get at least one 512MB card. I've now got two. A good camera bag is also essential, the Tamrac TA5692 (which you can get from Amazon) fits the bill.

5.0 out of 5 stars An all rounder for novice and pro - go for it! 8 Sep 2005
As someone who makes a bit of money taking photos, I usually carry my Canon DSLR and accessories around in a purpose-made rucksack that tends to come with me wherever I go - but isn't light. A couple of weeks before a family holiday I decided a compact digicam for holiday snaps was a good thing to have for shopping days and general walking around.
Looking around on the net I found this one - what "sold" it to me was the 6.3MP sensor, 4x zoom (most have 3x) and the RAW file mode (I always use RAW on my SLR). The price clinched it.
Having now come back from hols I can say I'm very impressed with this camera. The video mode was a great bonus - I don't usually carry a vidcam with me, but I got some footage of the holiday I was really please to come back with! Of note is video inside an aquarium - it was dark, flash not allowed, so I videoed instead - no problems.
I did use the DSLR for some solo walking around with photos specifically in mind - mostly dawn and sunset stuff (makes for a long day!). While the E550 doesn't quite match up with my other camera (I wouldn't expect it to) it does a lovely job, especially considering how convenient it is to keep handy. For a beginner, the auto will do everything for you - for an enthusiast with some experience, the manual modes are there to use. A bit of an all-rounder then.
The only gripe I had after using it on holiday is this: I bought some heavy-duty AA batteries when my rechargeables ran down - they didn't work at all other than for the lens to twitch a bit. Others worked for a while but not long. It seems the camera is a bit fussy - so stick to good quality rechargeables.
If you aren't sure whether to go for this, I say do it - you won't find anything half as good at this price.
