Format:Audio CD
Like most people who own Kate Voegele songs, whether in CD or digital format, I discovered her out of the back of the TV programme One Tree Hill. I loved every song that she performed on One Tree Hill (OTH) and decided to download her first album - Don't Look Away! Don't Look Away I fell in love, downloaded the chords, I began just chilling out to her music, playing it myself, listening to it. On that album she had a mix of mellow, funk and almost rocky songs. I, like other OTH fans, followed the launch of this new album 'A Fine Mess'. I had such such high expectations and oh my word I was NOT disappointed!
This is without a doubt my favourite album of all time! I listen to it as much as poss, I determined not to get bored of it - but I really can't see that happening. She's really expanded her horizons and she explores a lot of different types of music and it works wonderfully with her voice.
I'm really hoping at some point soon she'll do a UK tour but until that day - you absolutely MUST buy this album!! I would recommend the CD version rather than the MP3 coz the cover sleeve is gorgeous and contains lyrics!

Format:Audio CD
I got this cd because whilst I loved listening to her debut, I thought that there might be more to her. And I was right. Her songwriting has improved if that is even possible, and the lyrics give you something to think about. Her singing style has changed a little (a bit sweeter, less throaty) but just as good and has been well worth the wait.
Inside out - 7/10 - not as good as some of the tracks, but fun and catchy and upbeat
99 times - 9/10 - full of the attitude we have come to love from ms Voegele. Great lyrics.
Who you are without me - 10/10 - my personal favourite. Great beat, beautiful lyrics and song, and fantastic powerful vocals.
Angel - 5/10 - slower song, and not one of my faves, although it is a grower.
Sweet silver lining - 6/10 - very cute, sweet song. Beautiful lyrics, but Kate's voice is better than the song.
Playing with my heart - 10/10 - another of my favourites, as it is so original and catchy, and she hits some beautiful notes. The acoustic version is even better though.
Manhattan from the sky - 5/10 - this is just okay. Nice song, but nothing special.
Talkin smooth - 6/10 - again, just okay, could have done with a faster beat, and more varied melody.
Lift me up - 8/10 - love love loev this ballad, just beautiful. A bit different from the rest of the album.
Overall great album, GO BUY IT NOW AND GET KATE KNOWN!!

The one thing to say about Kate Voegele, is don't judge her until you've heard her. Or more specifically, until you've given this album a listen. I discovered her, and the majority of her English fans surely did, on One Tree Hill, where she plays the role of fictional singer/songwriter Mia Catalano, and fell in love with her voice when she sang 'Hallelujah' on the show. Having downloaded her first album, I waited eagerly for the second, and have not been disappointed.
Kate has come on in leaps and bounds since her first album: this recording is more mature, more musically accomplished, and more varied in it's sound than her previous release. Not only that, but her voice has also matured, and some of the tracks on this album are simply beautiful. Even the tracks that I was originally not that bothered with (Lift Me Up being the main culprit) have grown on me as I've come to realise they're tracks that have a lot of meaning. This is the kind of album you can listen to and realise that every track is real, every track sounds as though it was written about something that happened somewhere, rather than being cliched and 'typical'. 'Manhattan from the Sky' is probably the best example of this.
For me, the highlights of this album are 'Angel', 'Manhattan from the Sky' (both of which were featured on One Tree Hill), 'Inside Out', 'Say Anything' and 'Playing With My Heart' -- but there is no song on this album that I don't like.
On on last note, this album is certainy expensive for what it is as this CD has had no official UK release, but is imported from America (or at least the version Amazon sent me, is) but it is worth it, and presumably if this album becomes succcessful in the UK her next work might get a better release. I also advise paying the extra £3 to get this extended edition rather than the standard: for that you get four new tracks, and a beautiful acoustic version of 'Playing With My Heart'. It's definitely worth it!

Kate Voegele - a fine mess
My favourite of Kate's CD's infact my entire CD collection to date! She is an amazing artist. I thank One tree hill for introducing her to me!
