Product Description

Review

a courageous and moving story written by a courageous woman, in which she describes vividly her experiences of some of the best and the worst of human behaviour. It should provide help and insight to many people who are enduring mental suffering. It is a powerful lesson for those who live with, care and provide support for people with mental disturbance and those who administer health-care systems --Prof. Frederick Toates, co-author of Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour

I brought this book without really reading the reviews, rarely do you get a book about a patient from a hospital. And I have to say, it was a very very interesting book to read! Some bits made me gasp and feel angry, parts made me want to hug the writer and tell her not everyone in the world is bad. I am only 18 (well 17, but 18 in a week)...and I did at one point ask my mum "Why do some people seem to be made to suffer, where as others don't even get touched by evil people".

This book is absolutely amazing, and makes you look at child abuse the mental health system in a completely new light.

Thank you for writing this book, I read it in 2 days, just couldn't put it down...except where it made me so angry I wanted to smash my kindle!

You are an amazing writer and woman! I wish you all the luck in your life. And to people thinking of purchasing this book. Do it! You won't regret it!

A compelling read 14 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
An incredible book that is very thought provoking and leaves you with a broad range of emotions - to name a few -
Revoltion, sadness, joy at how Lisa has survived and her own family are now thriving!
It's amazing that Lisa has the inner strength to write her experiences and publish them. I'm sure if other people have been through similar situations reading this will help them with their healing process.

Such an insight into the life of a very special and talented person,

Superbly written ... 18 Sep 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I stumbled upon this book by chance via Facebook. This I am ever thankful for.. I had downloaded it for weeks before I read it. .
However once I started I couldn't put it down. I found that this author provided us with such insight to the character you almost felt you were her..
As formally trained as a psychiatric nurse it actually made me question myself. Did I ever treat a mental health patient with as little respect as the author had At times been shown??? Every mental health worker should read this..
The level of abuse that the author suffered was described in a very heartfelt way. There was no way you didn't know how much loathing the author felt for both the abuser and for herself. Obviously she couldn't control this abuse and hid it from loved ones as only an abused Child/ Adult can..Also she made us undersand the hardship suffered wen not understanding why her loving parents didn't notice the signals of abuse..
I definitely felt this book provided me with a certain amount of catharsis. It was difficult to read at times but None of the books containing this sort of abuse is considered light reading.
I most certainly would never describe the abuse scenes as being titillating.. That's actually a gross comment from a previous reviewer..
Really glad the author has managed to turn her life around and I'm so glad she was spared by God to help so many with her tail..
thanks

Poorly written
This book is so badly written it's almost unreadable. The grammar appears in the book as if it has been directly translated from a foreign language. Read more

A FINE LINE A BALANCE TO SURVIVE
I thought this story was engaging but slow to start. At times the author includes irrelevant information which can be annoying.

Disappointed
I find it very hard to believe this story. It is also very badly written with an ending which left me feeling I wish I had not bothered.
