Synopsis

Clues, commentaries, analysis and character bios designed to help viewers make sense of one of the most successful - and complicated - TV drama series of all time. Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning uber-drama "Lost" has garnered legions of fans the world over for its stylish feel, vibrant locations and addictive complexity. Extremely addictive (and extremely extreme) complexity. As lost as the survivors - and that strange feller down the hole - and that weird monster thing - and the...well, you get the picture - as lost as everyone and everything running around the nameless island in the middle of somewhere, millions of cult and mainstream devotees alike have flocked to the Internet in the hope of finding some answers to the one overriding question: just what the hell is going on? They need look no further. Legendary TV analyst Nikki Stafford, well known among cult fans for her insightful episode commentaries, dissects each episode of the groundbreaking series - finally offering answers to confounded viewers.

She illustrates the links between seemingly disparate events, piecing together the histories of each character and how they are intertwined; illuminates key background concerns with philosophers, political figures, literature and literary theory, religion and numerology; and includes extensive information about the mysterious island.

Title says it all really, I've read almost all the unofficial guides to the show and this is the only one that left me setting time aside to read it night after night. Basically it's just as addictive as the show. The book contains an in depth analysis of every episode to the end of series 2. For each episode you not only get a full analysis and recap but also:

. Highlighted moment from the episode.
. Things you may not have noticed including easter eggs.
. Some interesting facts about the episode.
. A nitpick.
. General bloopers.
. Every single occurence of the infamous '4,8,15,16,23,42' numbers.
. Any injuries the characters sustained in that episode.
. Translation of any foreign language used that is unsubtitled.
. A list of questions that episode raises.
. A list of any deaths in that episode.
. A directory of the music featured.

You also get background information on all the cast such as Terry O'Quin who plays Locke and Mathew Fox who plays the role of Jack. There are some neat features such as pages detailing scripts of exactly what the whispers in the jungle are saying. Book after book is featured in LOST, such as 'Watership Down' and 'Our Mutual Friend' we get a summary of all these books here and how they connect to the show and if they reveal any secrets. You also get to see where everything is filmed and some solid background information on how LOST was conceived.

If you want to be a step ahead of other viewers this is a must have, I guarantee you won't be disapointed!

Good for a Lost Geek 20 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is brilliant, it references everything that has been in Lost so far, how people are linked to each other, the book references that are made in the programme, Jin and Sun's translations (that aren't shown on the screen), it's great, have the other 2 books too, can't wait to read them!

This book is a good read. It doesn't give you a trascript of the episodes but more a light brush over the major happenings which is all that is needed as the book dedicates more time into pointing out things you may not have realised and posing questions which it leaves you to ponder. Although the book seems slightly biased (the author appears to really have it in for Jack!), it doesn't affect the overall quality of this publication. Hats off to you Nikki Stafford. I certainly got 'Lost' in your book. Hee hee...what a brilliant pun. Genius.
