After having this CD for a minute, and having spent the time to listen to it, my first impressions are good. Many in their reviews have compared this Cd to Be,which I think is a little bit unfair, as I would imagine that most artists would like each CD to be considered on it own merits and rights. Saying that I prefer this CD to Be . After giving it some thought I'd say mainly due to the quality of samples and music that are on display here. On each CD, you know lyrically that Common is gonna bring it, but I just didn't like the music/samples production on offer in the latter joint.
If I was to pick favorites on here I would have to say: 'I Want You' featuring & produced by Will.iam, which is a beautiful poet love song, which isn't crass but the way a man should step to a lady. The Kanye produced' drivin' me wild' featuring the UK's own Lilly Allen. Now I'm not a big fan of Ms Allen, but this enchanting collabo works, again with Common speaking about wannabees. I love the very old schollish 'The Game' with the renowned DJ premier, the Very deep 'U,Black maybe, the beautiful 'So far to go' with D'angelo, 'Break My Heart', the excellent'Misunderstood,, in fact I can let this CD play and chill and listen to it all.
I didn't think I would like this CD as much as I do, but the excellent music/samples/production along Common's lyrical prowess equals a must have CD, and my favorite Hip Hop CD of the year, thus far.

Some reviews have been critical of this album and accusing it of being too "commercial." I think this album needs to be put within the context of modern Hip Hop. Unlike during the mid-nineties Hip Hop is currently being seen as 50 Cent, Kano, Black Eyed Peas and Timbaland! This album sets the bar as what Hip Hop should be and not what is has become.
This album is full of well written and well crafted songs discussing a wide range of contemporary issues. The beats are well produced, catchy and easy on the ear! I agree its not as good as albums like "Like Water for Chocolate" but its still an utterly fantastic and eclectic album from Common.
I heavily recommend this album to both Common fans and those experiencing Common for the first time, as well as those who love real Hip Hop!
Favourite tracks would include, The Game, Misunderstood & Start The.

Both these albums have more of a "timeless" feel than Common's last 2 efforts. Both Finding Forever and "Be" cater more to the masses. Love it or hate it, Electric Circus pushed boundaries and offered us beats and hip-hop that were outside the box... but it now seems like Common's disowned that album... Can't see myself playing "Be" or F.F. in 8-10 years time, both are of the (Kanye West) moment.

This is another quality album from one of the best MC's in Hip Hop. I still prefer his earlier albums to this ie Resurrection/Like Water for Chocolate as his lyrics were cleverer and the production more subtle but what Commons found is a producer with the reputation and following that allows him to be mainstream yet still credible as an MC. The collaberation with Kanye works brillinatly over this album with catchy basslines and funky beats and Commons voice and lyrics always sound 'real'. With this album and BE I hope it will make more mainstream Hip Hop fans look into his earlier albums and discover that there is alot more to Common than his work with Kanye. Good Album from a true MC.

Common's sound has yet again evolved beautifully in his latest work. I've never heard hip hop or rap as accomplished as this...rich, layered, varied, innovative...a true masterwork that proves his status as the best in the business today. The Kanye inspired (second :) resurrection is complete in Finding Forever, as Common seamlessly blends the many components of hip hop that have moved people for decades in a fresh yet mature and balanced way. Common has truly found forever

Five of the tracks have been around for a while - so almost half of it seemed familiar but the rest of the tracks are equally as good. If you think Electric Circus was his best album this is not for you - but if you thought Be was his best album you will love this.
