Product Description

Anthony Ant first became a children’s phenomenon in the early 1990s. Now Anthony’s back and marching again in a new, simple book full of fun clues, deceptive details, and entertaining rhymes. Children will enjoy finding the tiny ant in a series of elaborate

underground mazes, and as they’re searching, they’re also counting.

About the Author

Lorna and Graham Philpot are an ingenious collaborative team. Anthony Ant and his Extraordinary Underground Maze became an instant success when it was first published in 1990 in the UK, USA, and Canada. It won the coveted Best Picture Book 1994 award, voted for by the Federation of Children's Books in the United Kingdom. Anthony Ant's success blossomed into a collection of books and a major TV series. Lorna and Graham Philpot live with their three children, Leonie, Henrietta and Maddox in London.

The first time we read this, the kids were entranced with looking for Anthony Ant in the maze of tunnels. The next time we read it the kids noticed a lot more of the many other characters, traced Anthony's route through the book, counted ants, worms, birds and many more.

My boys are 4 and 7 and it appeals to both. The younger one can't read yet but he loves the detailed pictures and looking at the animals. The older one always comes over to join in when it comes out. He likes tracing a path through the confusing maze of underground tunnels that Anthony is hiding in.

I'd say that this was somewhere in between The Hungry Caterpiller/10 Little Ladybirds and Where's Wally. Good for counting, good for looking, good for reading together. I'm just about to buy it as a birthday present for my friend's 4 year old.

By Emma W TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
The detailed drawings of the ant colonies really are the star of the show, the words play second fiddle in this book. It is not really a story as such, it is more like "Where's Wally?" as you have to look for Anthony Ant in the intricate drawings of the maze like tunnels the ants live in. It is quite hard to spot him at first as the ants are so small in the picture that they are not much more than stick men, but you can recognise him by his red cap and backpack. It is the kind of book where you can spot something new every time you go back to it. My 3 year old loves it.
