Nothing else needed 11 Nov 2010
By Wooster
Format:Paperback
I was self employed for 15 years, and now teach a 'Start Your Own Business' course at evening classes. This is my recommended course book, as it contains everything you're likely to need to know. It's the only book I know that is updated and reprinted every year, with revised financial information and phone numbers etc. Practical down-to-earth advice written in an easy to understand way. Thoroughly recommended.

THis is a great book in almost every way. It covers the administrative issues around starting up a business admirably, as you would expect from an FT Group book. However, it doesn't get 5 stars from me because of the gaping hole it leaves by failing to acknowledge the importance of e-commerce. It questions whether an online presence is necessary for a lot of companies, and even offers a basic definition of search engines, apparently on the assumption that readers would need to be familiarised with them! For this reason it felt years out of date ...

Comprehensive 2 Dec 2010
By The Emperor TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This does a great job in covering all the basics that you need to consider when starting a business.
It is a great resource to dip into and also has lots of references where you can find more detailed information. It has a lot less fluff than many similar books and is very practical.
