4.0 out of 5 stars Well written and complete as far as it goes 5 Jan 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Of all the books on spread betting, this one is perhaps the most complete introduction. It starts with the basics and expands in a logical sequence, from concepts of betting long and short to the next level of stops and orders. Terminology in the sector is explained in the normal Dummies style, which is excellent for this subject. Importantly, the formatting of the KIndle version is well preserved and the Table of Contents links correctly to all sections (this happens in surprisingly few textbook-type tomes.)

Equally important, though, is what it DOESN'T do. It doesn't show you how to make money or choose profitable bets, of course - although it shows you how to limit your risk (and no spread bettor, even a newbie, should EVER make a bet without stops.) It doesn't talk much about how to recognise a good investment, either: there's a section on basic financial calculus but it sensibly doesn't attempt to teach accounting and finance.

So, this book's audience is the intelligent sofa investor who wants to try spread betting and wants to get a grasp on the concepts. It won't be the only book you buy on the subject, but it's a great book to start with, or (like me) single volume to use as reference when you're an experienced bettor who's been out of the markets for a while. Overall a good buy and worth the tenner.
