I loved the Final MB book, so bought surgery as well. I had looked at the old edition and thought it was great, but I'd be better off with this new one.
While all the chapters are still great, with the addition of more diagrams and photos, it is extremely disappointing to me to find the radiology chapter that I loved in the second edition has been completely obliterated!
It has shrunk from some 50+ pages of images and examples of how to present each and every one to a one and half page section on what to look for on any generic image.
It was a chapter I found was unrivalled in all other OSCE books, and which is why I bought it.
I'd buy the second edition if I were you!

Finals in Surgery is a fabulous book! Surgery is generally not taught well in my experience...probably cuz the fab surgeons are too busy in theatre! This book builds your confidence and skill and imparts much "Oh!so THAT'S why we do that!" kind of knowledge in the critical run-up to finals. Every question I was asked was in this text - Don't ignore it! I only wish I has read it a couple of years earlier! It would have been great during the third year!
Good luck!
A-newly-qualified-doc!

This is the book you need if you've left it to the last minute to revise. It has clear summaries of the most important surgical problems and lists of differential diagnoses as well as the most common exam questions. There are tips on how to impress examiners, how to elicit important clinical signs and what to go do on the ward in the last weeks before finals. Generally this is the perfect blagger's guide to getting through part 1 and 2 exams.
