This is not necessarily the best of Michael Ridpath's novel's I have read to date, with Market Maker and Free to Trade I found it difficult to put down and was constantly finding time to finish it.
Final Venture is based around the firm of venture capatalists based in Boston, it begins extremely slow and even when the murder has occurred continues at a mediocre pace for some pages before getting to the nitty gritty of it all. Simon Ayot is a believable if not sometime gullable romantic character who finds himself the main suspect in his father-in-laws murder enquiry, this and several other (non exciting) events occur on the climax to the finale of this book however, although no fireworks went off for me it was worth the wait and was a reasonable ending, ensuring that I did not regret purchasing it.
Despite my comments, Michael is a superbly intelligent author and although this may not be the 'EPIC' novel anticipated on comparison with the others, I shall wait with eager anticipation for the release of his next title.
