Four cassettes, 6 hrs.
Performance by Carolyn McCormick

No sooner does Melissa Delgado arrive at her sister's isolated Virginia country home than she finds herself drawn into a drama she never expected. Years earlier her sister, the renowned Dr. Jessie Delgado, pulled Melissa out of the darkness of severe catatonic trauma. Now Jessie is attempting to do the same for the daughter of the president of the United States.

The last thing young Cassie Andrews saw was an organized team of thieves ruthlessly murder her nanny and the Secret Service officers assigned to protect her—in an attempt to steal the priceless statue of the Wind Dancer, whose possession is fabled to determine the fate of nations.

It's Melissa who turns out to be the key in bringing Cassie back from the depths of her terrifying nightmares. But to do so, she must risk her own safety and place her trust in a mysterious, charismatic man.

Michael Gage made his fortune in the international underworld. He risked his own life to save Cassie during that night of terrible bloodshed. And he has secretly agreed to help the U.S. President get his revenge. But why? Doe he really want to help or does he have an ulterior motive? Is his show of concern a dangerous charade?

Melissa has no choice but to accept Michael Gage as an ally—even when he proposes a dangerous plan that will put all their lives on the line. For far away from the safety of Virginia, an international game of deadly intrigue is underway. It is a game of powerful and dangerous underworld figures who specialty is getting what they want—and whose means to do it is murder. And it is the game of one killer who is obsessed with the very thing at the heart of Cassie's nightmares: the enigmatic, invaluable statue called the Wind Dancer.

Book Description

Dr. Jessica Riley nursed her sister back from a six-year withdrawal after the traumatic deaths of their parents and Melissa has spent every day since living life to the full. But when Jessica takes on the treatment of Cassie, beloved daughter of US President Andreas, the lives of both sisters become more and more complicated. Cassie is suffering a nightmare-filled trauma after her family's holiday retreat was violently attacked by masked criminals wishing to bargain with the President and use his daughter as currency. Cassie's life was saved at the last minute, but the bloody affair has gone unpunished and Cassie's saviour, Michael Travis - the only man who seems to hold any clues to the attackers' identities - has secrets of his own and has disappeared himself. As the manhunt for enigmatic diamond smuggler Travis closes in, all the characters are forced to bend the rules and trust those they would normally condemn. Extraordinary bonds develop and at every turn the mysterious pull of an emerald-eyed statue is strangely significant. Lives depend on knowing who can really be trusted and some will doubtless be lost . . . This intense and lively thriller will keep you turning the pages to discover who is going to be the FINAL TARGET. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Though my good friend Vesta Irene had some problems with this book, I think she's over reacting. Yes the plot was a little over the top, but I willingly went along for the ride, enjoying it most of the way.
I was hooked right from the get go, concerned for Cassie as sees her traitorous nanny and her Secret Service protection killed and worried about her when she goes into the catatonic coma. I found myself hoping psychiatrist Jessica Riley and her sister Melissa could get through to her and I didn't find the mysterious Michael and his mysterious connection to Cassie so far fetched at all.

Maybe the sweeping saga is too much for this book, I don't know, but I liked it. I especially liked the fact that both the Secret Service and the horribly evil Deschamps are after our heroes at the same time. And I also liked the connection between this book and Johansen's Wind Dancer romantic trilogy.

Maybe I'd only have given this one four stars, but I feel that I've got to make up for Vesta's harsh rating, besides, I was teetering toward five anyway, so five stars it is.

In true Iris Johansen style you are whirled into the depths of political intrigues, mysterious bonds in inter-human relationships, and the purest emotions of love and hate all in connection with the Wind Dancer. How can you resist after the enchanting Wind Dancer trilogy?

A book that will capture your attention and won't let you go until the end, which sadly comes too abruptly.

Nevertheless, it is a great teaser that will capture your imagination and fill your dreams with the brightest of colours. It would really be a shame to miss out.
