This book tells the tale of a sports journalist who goes on one last holiday with his dying father: a holiday which encompasses their joint passion: golf. They travel round lots of the old courses in Britain and there are many poignant moments in the book as the father remembers his time in the Uk during the War and the son learns things he never knew about his father. The father is a great character and I'm afraid to say that I did cry at the end. Overall, a worthwhile read for those who are interested in all the famous, and not so famous, golf courses, but also a book that makes you appreciate your family.

Brilliantly Written 16 Jun 2010
Format:Hardcover
Was apprehensive about this book at first as the Americans play a different game to us. How wrong could I have been. The book is well written although a bit slow to start. However, I then became glued to it! Anyone who plays golf, especially with their father or son will be able to relate to so much of this sad but also very funny 'final journey' that Jim Dodson goes through with his father. The British Links courses that he describes come to life and make you appreciate what we have here in Britain and why the Americans both love and fear some of our great courses. I think you would have to be a golfer to read the book as you have to understand the addiction that golf is to some of us. I was lucky enough to pick up a second hand, hard back copy in large print and I have to say it is a book I will always cherish.

A very moving book that details a sons' love for his dying father. The book follows their final tour of Britain's golf courses, just before the fathers' expected death. An excellent read for both the keen golfer and anyone who just loves their parents.
