Firstly people might be wondering who is Matsuno?? well the first thing to mention is that Matsuno is the man behind the conception of the world of Ivalice and director of the game. His focus on mature storytelling and dark, realistic drama are the reasons why the War of the Lions is phenominal.
The reasons I enjoyed the game was primarily because of the story. Its starts off telling a very human drama about the differences between the lower and upper class citizens of Ivalice. Anyway A LOT of things happen between the beginning and the end, not to mention we're left with so many intriguing questions about the world of Ivalice. Druing that time, the story and the characters transform into something mesmerising, suprising and very unpredicatble. I could've never imagined the world I was transported into when I first put this into my PSP.
However the reason I've deducted 1 star is because of the gameplay, while I did enjoy the battles at times, it can get very difficult, and you will have to train for a while to be able to get the right setup for the major story battles. and to be honest the fights are a bit slow, nothing as engaging as the fast paced action of Final Fantasy 13!! But the fights are statisfing, and its great unlocking new classes and accessing some of the more powerful weapons and armour.
To finish I'll say that this is an amazing game and the story Matsuno has developed in this game has so much depth. If it was a book it could probabily amount to size of the Lord of Rings trilogy; and we're left with so much to look foward to in the world of Ivalice. However its only the gameplay which lets it down at times, that aside fans of this game should be looking foward to Matsuno's next project Tactic's Ogre, which is said to be his best!!
