2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing, 5 Mar 2001
By stevecwilson@lineone.net (Portsmouth, England) - See all my reviews
I have been a fan of the final fantasy series ever since FFVII came out. The game was like no other I had ever played before...Even now i am sure I haven't found everything out about it.

So when FFVIII came out i played through myself before purcasing PiggyBack's guide. I was very impressed with the detailed explinations and with the help of the guide i found all there was to know about the game.

I got FFIX recently and decided to purchase the book. I was very dissapointed... It dosen't at all live up to FFVIII's guide. Little things like a big world map to look at are gone, don't be fooled by thinking it is colourful, not half the colours of the previous guide. And as already pointed out, every time there is a secret the book dosen't tell you what to do. No no you have to go to a website and enter 'Key Words' to unlock the secrets.

As far as i am concerned i paid for a book to "read" not to point me in the direction of playonline.com It is irritating and i had prolounged abcences away from a game i was eager to play.

I am sure if you want to buy it you will, but don't say you weren't warned!

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be better, 1 Oct 2005
I have used strategy guides of this line before and both were brilliant, or at least brilliant enough that I can't remember where they fell down. The FFIX strategy guide disappointed me, however. The text is more narrative than instructions, and though part of it seems to be the fault of the game (lacking in side quests, anyone?) I didn't feel like it really went in depth into what to do and how to do, but just told you what was going on. All well and good, but I don't like things that just point out what I've already worked out. I'd like a strategy guide I can refer to when I'm stuck; this one hasn't really come through for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter wallet rape, 12 Dec 2004
After the excellent complete guides to FF7 and FF8, imagine my disappointment to discover that as well as the price of the book, i would also have to fork out money for a PC so i could PLAY ONLINE. Squaresoft should be ashamed . I pay money for a strategy guide so that i can get all the info on secrets and side quests. If thats what you want too, forget this complete cow-pat of a book and go online to an unofficial site to get what you dont already know. utter pish
