Although I did not like the game of FF9 quite as much as FF7 and FF8, I still could not resist the CD, and I'm quite pleased with it, although the music is a bit more samey than the previous release. Of course the battle and boss music themes are easy to recognise, and both are pretty good, up to the series standards. I also enjoy the "lullaby" battle music of the friendly monsters, it's very relaxing! The theme of the game is somewhat medieval, and there are lots of tunes that carry this flavour, with jingling bells and pipes...Actually, there are a few too many like this, and having all the tracks listed in Japanese makes it worse, as I couldn't remember a lot of the tracks, or relate them to the time I heard them while playing the game. After spending some frustrated hours listening to the songs with no titles to help me, I tracked down a full translation of the titles on the web, and I have to say, my appreciation of the music went up enormously once I could identify a piece in its context within the game. For this reason, I am including the list of translated titles here, to help other non-Japanese speakers identify their favourite tracks:

Disc 1:

1 Place I Call Home 2 Memories lost in the storm 3 Battle strategy meeting 4 Skies of Alexandria 5 Vivi's theme 6 Living by the sword 7 Vamo' alla flamenco 8 Decisive action ~Search for the princess~ 9 Jesters of the Moonless Sky 10 Steiner's Theme 11 Primavista band 12 Captivating eyes 13 Tonight 14 Your warmth 15 Mistaken love 16 Queen of

the abyss 17 Awakened forest 18 Fighting 19 Fanfare 20 Memories of that day 21 More Fighting 22 Game Over 23 Run!

Has all the music from the game. In my opinion, great games need great music and this game certainly did. Hence why I ended up buying the cd. Outstanding music. Not much more I have to say.
I guess one thing I would have liked was more artwork. And my copy of the cd was quite expensive. Worth it though if you enjoy the music as much as I do.

To balance out the other review here 19 Mar. 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

The other review stating that this collection only has a 1/3 of the game's music is wrong. Amazon has the listings for the songs messed up, and it appears that the Piano Collection has more than it actually does. In actuality, the Piano Collection has only 14 songs, and all of the songs from the actual game are on this set. Well, except for the stuff put on the Sountrack PLUS collection. But all of the main stuff from the game is on here, 108 tracks in total.

One Of The Best Video Game Soundtracks Ever. 17 Oct. 2012
By Greg Bailey - Published on Amazon.com

All of the Final Fantasy games have good soundtracks, personally I think VII-X's are the best of the series soundtrack wise. Final Fantasy IX's soundtrack is probably the most catchy of them all though, with some VERY melodic upbeat and catchy pieces here. "Jesters of the Moon" will have you humming in no time, "The Village of Dali" theme is very peaceful, and "Vamo Alla Flamenco" is such a catchy piece with the spanish guitar added effect. It sets you in the lighthearted, fun mood that the game has.

This soundtrack comes with every piece from the game, all of the town, dungeon, world map and battle themes from the game. The first reviewer was says it leaves a lot of the songs out, it doesn't. If your into fun, and sometimes peaceful themes from anything, not necessarily just Video Games in general than you will love this group of cool theme music from this great game.

Awesome game 4 Oct. 2013

this is the last of the final fantasy games made for the ps1. It is awesome and what I love the most is the music! The music has all those fantastic tracks like the kupo/mog theme. To be completely honest I like the kupo theme so much that I bought the soundtrack just to get that particular track but I discovered so many more tracks on the soundtrack that I loved just as much as the kupo theme so it was a total win-win for me and this album! 8)
Decent. 19 April 2014

Compared to 7 or 8 soundtracks its.... not as good. Order in the game versus what they tend to be used extensively for make listening somewhat confusing (as in, chocobo song is used in the early stages of the Prima Vista theatre performance).

No other better Final Fantasy soundtrack than this one. My favourite of the saga. The compositions are unique in this game, and just listen the record reminded me each part of the game perfectly. More than recomended.
