Product Description

Product Description

In Final Departures, Barry leaves the boundaries of his beloved Bermondsey to take us on a whistle-stop tour of death around the world. He introduces us to an astonishing variety of attitudes and practices of dying: some gruesome, some bizarre and many quite beautiful and moving. Barry's unique journey takes us from the mummies of ancient Egypt to the techno-funerals of modern-day Korea and into the future, when it will be possible to have your ashes sent into space. He tells of famous deaths that have affected millions, such as those of Elvis and Diana Princess of Wales. And those less well-known but equally unique such as the woman whose body is now stored in a glass coffee table in her husband's living room! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the Author

Barry Albin-Dyer owns F. A. Albin & Sons in Bermondsey, South London, one of Britain's largest and oldest family firms of funeral directors. He is now one of the UK's best-known undertakers and is consulted on and conducts some of the most high-profile funerals in the country. He is also the sole European agent for Detroit's controversial Cryonics Institute. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

If you have read Don't Drop the Coffin, then this is a must. Mr Albin-Dyer takes you on a whistle stop tour of the world and introduces you to different religions and their traditions when it comes to saying goodbye to their loved ones. He also adds little anecdotes of life in his funeral business in South London. He also writes about famous people and what happened just after they passed away.

This is another great book by Mr Albin-Dyer, a must for everyone who read and loved Don't Drop the Coffin.

Having watched the tv series based on the first book (Don't Drop The Coffin) I had been searching for these books (there is 4 in total) for ages & when I found them on Amazon & at such a great price was delighted. They are very informative as well as being very amusing & after reading the author is the kind of person you would want as a friend, I would definitely recommend this.

This book sounded quite interesting, but it turned out to be pretty mediocre, although there was a couple of interesting things I learned. But I was expecting something different to what I read.
