2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite worth it..., 20 Jun 2009
By Matthew Leclair - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Final Crisis Companion (Paperback)
I absolutely loved Final Crisis, but Final Crisis Companion was a big disappointment. One of the reasons I bought this was from Amazon's description, which says, "Superman explores the infinite secrets of the Multiverse and teams up with alternate versions of himself to battle a mammoth evil in a story from writer Grant Morrison (ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, JLA) so thrilling it includes 3-D pages and glasses!" Maybe I just got a defective copy, but this certainly wasn't included in mine. Anyway, be forewarned! If you're buying it for that story, you're going to be seriously disappointed!

Instead, it includes the first issue of Final Crisis, only in black & white, without text. If you've already got Final Crisis, you've got the same thing in color, with text, so this is pretty superfluous. Afterwards, you get "director's commentary" by JG Jones and Grant Morrison. This offers some nice insight, but they only talk about the first issue. It would have been much better if they'd looked at the whole series. On the plus side, it does provide some nice closure around the Martain Manhunter's death that was seriously lacking in Final Crisis. The other two stories are entertaining, but nothing amazing. Overall, this feels like the extras they slap onto the DVD they rush out right after a movie leaves the theater, instead of the Deluxe 2-Disc Collectors Edition. There was so much amazing stuff in Final Crisis, so many ideas, events and characters that could have been explained more and expanded on in a companion volume. Unfortunately, this isn't that companion volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly like it says on the tin..., 11 July 2009
By A. Vickers - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Final Crisis Companion (Paperback)
...this is a companion book for Final Crisis; if you want to get this, you should probably get Final Crisis as well. Just like the "Infinite Crisis" event which had it's own companion, this isn't absolutely crucial to understanding Final Crisis, but it serves to help clear things up. Included in this is the director's cut and commentary of Final Crisis #1, "Secret Files" (which describes the origin of Libra), Requiem (showing the death of the Martian Manhunter in better detail), "Resist" (showing Checkmate's struggle during the event), and several sketch designs for various characters in the event.

Please note that the actual Final Crisis collection contains Final Crisis #1-7, Submit, and Superman Beyond #1-2, so if you are looking for any of those stories, you now know where to look.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Companion, 30 Mar 2010
By Xavier Zavala Heras "Lexavi80" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Final Crisis Companion (Paperback)
This book was a good purchase since it helps you to understand at least the first chapter of Final Crisis. Also contain some other stories, like Libra's origins and some other stuff with Mister Terrific in Checkmate.

I enjoy it and found it very helpful to understand a thing or two on the main story.

I've read Infinite Crisis companion and I thought it wasn't helpful at all, but this one I liked it and I'll keep it.
