FILTHY SHADES OF GRAY
a.k.a.
The Pervert and the Slag

When Anna helps her best friend Kit by interviewing local high-flying fruit stall owner Chris Gray, the last thing she expects is to become embroiled in a filthy new relationship based almost entirely on perverted sex.

But this is exactly what happens. As Anna copes with the rather mundane life-tasks of finishing college, moving to a new flat and attempting to find a job, she embarks upon a series of escalating sexual encounters involving her disgusting new boyfriend and his outrageous sexual appetites.

‘Filthy Shades of Gray’ is a ripping piss-take of the wildly popular ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, and will appeal to fans of the original (and also to those that couldn’t bring themselves to read it).

Review from proof-reader and fellow author Johnny Heisenberg:
‘A vicious parody. Roach takes a knife to a popular phenomenon, stabs it and leaves it bleeding in the gutter. I couldn’t stop laughing.’

4.0 out of 5 stars I howled with laughter 26 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
After reading the original 3 I bought the Kindle version of this to keep me entertained on holiday. Now like a lot of people I enjoyed the original but yes it did have it's flaws and quite a lot of them get pointed out in this parody. Filthy shades brings Fifty shades to the UK in all it's crassest glory. If you're easily offended by rude crass jokes then this book is not for you. You will also benefit from reading the original so you understand the joke - the hardware store bit is my favourite.

I actually did laugh out loud at quite a few bits as well as groan and eugh came out a lot.

The end was a let down for me but it won't stop me buying the second one if and when it comes out.

If you like a laugh, don't take it too seriously and want something light then this is the book for you

The first three quarters were hilarious. The author doesn't give the original any chance of redemption - you'll be laughing at the mocking undertone paired up with the crappier aspects of British culture. I must agree though, who needs a high end hotel room when you have Premier Inn? Hats off to Chris Gray there.

The last quarter definitely handles some mature, messed up stuff. If you thought the sex scenes before this part were gross enough (I know I grimaced, albeit still feeling amused), it gets so graphic it's not even funny. Those who are offended easily should probably stop reading at this point.

Although the last quarter of the book takes a massive turn for the worse - far too dark and depressing for a parody, in my opinion - it's the pages before that make it worth the read. They'll literally make you laugh out loud.

In summary, well written parody, just wish you hadn't taken the characters so seriously that the story stopped being funny!
