Six part made for Spanish tv series is certainly a step from the much vaunted but dreadful Masters Of Horror Series but it lacks any real originality and even at it's best- To Let and The Baby's Room- is too predictable and rountinely plotted to make a real impression.
Running at about 70 - 80 minutes each the series comprises of
Blame
Young mother moves in with her doctor boss and slowly begins to suspect that all might not as rosy as first seems.Mother fixations,locked rooms and a sapphic undercurrent do little to raise this entry above it's level -that of a duff supernatural thriller with no thrills or tension.Dopey ending sums up this misfire.
Spectre
Cowardly youth returns 40 years later to his home town to face literally his demons in the form of a woman he had an affair with who was derided by the locals as a harlot but of course is something more than that.Almost criminal in it's predictability,poorly acted to boot and the worst of the series.
A Real Friend
Young girl living in an apartment block with her mother has Leatherface,Nosferatu amongst others as friends to help her pass the time.When the mother is contacted by an elderly man forewarning her of a visit from her "dead" husband things begin to unravel.
Better entry is quite clever with better pacing and acting and some decent scares.
A Christmas Tale
A group of friends a la Stand By Me find a female bank robber unconscious in a big hole deep in the forest.Rather than turn her in,they decide to make her their little secret but things end up going wrong in rather unexpected ways.Nice ensemble playing lends this interesting yarn a nice feel and the denouement while not unexpected is well done.... An excellent box set of six films from a Spanish TV series. These knock Masters of Horror off the shelf!
The best ones:
A Christmas Tale is set in the 1980s and stars the young girl from Pan's Labyrinth. She and her friends catch a thief in a trap an can't decide what to do with her. Two of the boys are interested in voodoo and decide to see if it works. Brilliant acting and lots of nostalgia for those of us old enough to have been tweens during that decade.
To Let - a couple go to view a flat up for lease, but the woman showing them round seems determined that they stay ... and is that their photograph on the bedside table? Fast-paced once it gets going, real edge-of-your seat stuff.
The Baby's Room. A couple with a new baby move into an old house. They are given a set of baby monitors, through which they hear a voice screaming. Concerned, the husband buys a high-tech monitor complete with night-vision camera and screen, but what he sees through it is not what he sees normally. Very original and thoroughly horrifying, once this has you in its teeth it runs away with you. Guaranteed to scare the pants off you. Watch it alone in the dark for maximum impact!

This boxset contains some crackers if you like watching your movies from under the duvet.If you want gore look elsewhere but if you like tension building creepy psychological ghostly tales they're here.BEWARE this is region 1 so you must have a multi region player.

the babys room anda christmas tale are the best films, babys room winning it for me as i saw it one night on tv on my own in the dark, not majorly scary, but eeary. buy if a fan of subtiltled ghost/horror flicks
