Reviews

Triple bill of campus-based comedies. 'Easy A' (2010) stars Emma Stone as Olive Penderghast, a high school student whose reputation is put on the line when she tells a white lie to her gay best friend, Brandon (Dan Byrd), about losing her virginity. As malign rumours about her begin to spread round the school - largely due to the influence of competitive student Marianne (Amanda Bynes) - Olive determines to make the best of the situation and use the rumours to her advantage. 'Sydney White' (2008) transposes the fairy tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves to a modern US college setting. Amanda Bynes stars as Sydney White, a beautiful young student who pledges her allegiance to her late mother's sorority when she starts college on a scholarship. She soon realises, however, that sorority life is far from what it was in her mother's day, and decides to find a home outside the college. She ends up sharing a house with seven male social outcasts and is pleased to discover that every one of the 'seven dorks' has a special quality of his own. 'The House Bunny' (2008) stars Anna Faris as Shelley, a blonde and bubbly Playboy bunny who is thrown out of the Playboy mansion and ends up becoming house mother in a college sorority that is home to seven socially challenged and downright dysfunctional young women. Despite their apparent differences, as Shelley settles into the role it becomes clear that she and the college girls may have a lot to teach other about life and love.

I bought this box set partly because I really wanted to watch easy A, but also because I thought 3 films for £6.99 was a bargain! Easy A was brilliant as I expected, a great film for girly nights in and I thought Emma Stone gave a great performance. I was pleasantly suprised by Sydney White - it didnt look as good as the others, but I found it really funny and it's actually one of my favourite chick flicks. The House Bunny was also really good, I wouldn't say it is as funny as the others, but still very enjoyable and I would definetly watch it again. Overall, all the films are superb and for such a cheap price, I am very glad that I ordered them! A must buy, especially for the teenage market :)

Three hilarious films about teenage life, all different, but all equally as wonderful. Easy A is probably my favourite, and Emma Stone was wonderful in it. It holds many references to 80's movies such as Sixteen Candles and the Breakfast Club, and it's not an average teenage comedy in that the protagonist Olive is not a shallow airhead, but rather inspirational.

Likewise, Sydney White was a fun film to watch with lots of great comedy moments, and Amanda Bynes (who also starred in Easy A) was fabulous in it.

House Bunny was probably my least favourite in the boxset, but still worth a watch and it stars Emma Stone who was the main girl in Easy A.

A great boxset for a great price that is just worth buying for an afternoon of lighthearted comedy and teenage drama.
