This is a very well written Book with many good illustrations. The ring binder down the spine is great because you can lay the book completely flat and this helps when following instructions of a new craft. All the instructions are very clear but the American/English terminology are right at the back of the book so check this out before you start with the wrong stitches.
There is also a fold out page at the back as a quick reference guide to working the mesh size that you want which is very helpful.
All the patterns provided are great - so many different topics, and you can easily work out how to make your own.
This book has everything you need to learn how to do filet crochet.

I have never tried filet crochet and this book has very clear instructions and is full of inspiration. There are pictures and patterns for each project and the wire ring binder makes it easy to read while crocheting. The only thing I would say are some of the photos are a bit pale (white background with pale colour crochet on top) but i would highly recommend this book.

this book is just great. A good selection of pattern, ways to combine them, clear instructions and I find the fact that its spiral bound facilitates use.

Excellent Guide to Filet Crochet 5 Nov. 2007
By Jean Leinhauser - Published on Amazon.com

Everything you've ever wanted to know about filet crochet is attractively presented in this handy size book, which has a hidden spiral binding. It has the best descriptions I've ever seen on shaping, and makes it easy to learn how to work from charts. It has a great visual presentation of all the techniques, from beginner to advanced, as well as some design collections. Includes designs for small and medium motifs, all-over patterns, even borders. A section on planning a design is quite helpful. A great book to pick up when you're bored and can't think what to crochet next. Take a look here, and you'll be inspired.

Endless Inspiration in Filet Crochet 2 Mar. 2008

Filet Crochet: More than 70 Designs with Easy-to-Follow Charts (Stitch Collection)

Betty Barnden's Filet Crochet is a terrific turtleback tome utilizing color throughout its 96 pages of eye candy-type designs. There are 70 designs, traditional and new; allover patterns; intriguing inserts, borders and edgings; not to mention alphabets and numbers to incorporate into a filet work of crochet. The book has comprehensive instructions, complete with detailed illustrations for basic techniques. Additionally, "how to read charts," "shaping," "lacets," and "stepped edges" are explained to make your filet crochet work as individual as it is exquisite. On page 32 there is a colorful "Design selector" that shows thumbnails of charts such as: hearts, a rose, deer, anchor, fleur de lys, stars, snowflake, geranium, daisy, dove, rabbit, snowdrop, tulip, cherries, butterfly, duck, cat, dog, truck, airplane, sailboat, goldfish, and a dozen allover patterns that will enhance your next crochet. The book is travel-sized (6x8"), opens nicely, and is well-organized categorically.

This book makes me want to drop what I'm doing and polish that #7 crochet hook with some size 10 cotton thread with some new-found inspiration. They only have 5 stars at Amazon. I give this cheerful book at least 10.

great tool 17 April 2009

This is a great book to add to your collection of crochet designs and stitches. It can be used to design curtains for the home as well as beautiful and unusual clothing. I must have for the serious needle artist and every day crochet buff. It will add a new dimension to everything you crochet. It is a simple way of thinking outside of the box. Filet crochet opens a whole new world of things you can do with your hook.

Filet Crochet another method to create pieces that look vintage 18 May 2010
By Wendy D. Bowie - Published on Amazon.com

I love this book. If you crochet and have not tried filet crochet - give it a whirl. Making pieces with filet crochet goes much more quickly and you can make large pieces in record time. This book contains a multitude of motifs that you can also combine to make anything from doilies to bedspreads. Use a fine crochet thread in a color like Ecru and your work will look like you inherited it from you grandmother, not like you just made it. By combining motifs in this book in different ways and making them into different pieces you will never run out of projects you are dying to make.

Disappointed with this book! 12 Jun. 2011

I am new to filet crochet, I found that the "how to" part is very confusing! I found a lot better instructions online than this book. And the patterns are very simple, like the other review mentioned, you can find similar patterns online for free.

I found few older books from 80s and 90s are way better than this book.

I am so glad that I bought this book as "Amazon Bargain Book", so I paid less than $7 for it.
