As it stands this product has a lot that is right with it - it is very easy to use, and it is well aimed at the consumer. There is no way I'd even think about getting Filemaker Pro - it's total overkill, but there are things for which this kind of software would be very useful.
However - there is something that totally cripples this piece of software.
Databases are useless if you can only get information in, and not back out. And such is the case with Bento. The print and export functions are practically non-existant. This is my personal gripe - I would have loved to have used this to create checklists for packing to move out, but as it is I would have to physically have my Macbook constantly, which is totally impractical when what you want is a sheet of paper and a pen.
Admittedly you have .csv export, but you so little control over what information ends up in the exported file - which again, means you have to spend a fair bit of time after exporting tweaking it until you've got what you want, when it could have been so much easier.
Other users have other gripes which are pretty big too. If you check the support forum, you can see many other complaints that are pretty big (such as lack of integration with other programs).
My conclusion of this is that this program feels like a beta. It has enough there for you to get the jist of what it might become, but lacking some of the attention to detail and important features that make it a completed piece of software.
My advice - watch this space. A little bit of tweaking could go a long way at the moment, so v.1.1 has potential to be really good (when they finally announce it); however, as it is, 1.0 isn't worth it.
