The Fiio E1 is a handy little iPod amp which has served me well in the gym. Ill start with the good and then onto the bad...
It defiantly makes a difference there's no doubt about it , not a massive difference but for the bargain price you cant go wrong. It slightly refines the bass & tightenes it up abit & boosts overall sound of the music. & also for those still whining about the ipods volume limit well... this bypasses it allowing louder volume for those who will enjoy becoming death. I would of gave this product 5 stars based on price/performance but unfortunately I cant due to the 4 EXTREMELY annoying flaws with the amp
1. There is NO lock button on the unit which means the very easy to knock buttons will go off at some point spoiling your song by skipping track or restarting one
2. The cable on the unit is just stupidly long filling your pocket with annoying as hell wiring making the whole tiny aspect of the amp a waste of time.
3. The Volume buttons are very small making increasing the volume annoying aswell
4. The clip which attaches to a belt or your trousers is tiny aswell which means the amp easily comes off and you have to stop what your doing to reattach it to yourself
Also the unit uses your ipods battery to power it not a lithium ion battery like the E5 but however I can confirm it doesn't really matter as my ipod touch battery never took a hit.
In my Honest opinion I think anyone would be better off paying a little bit more & geting a Fiio E5 + L1 Cable which does everything the E1 does but slightly better , has better build quality & a Lithium battery to not tax your ipod battery [Even though admittedly the E1 doesn't make a difference to Battery Life] The E5 can boost bass awell & doesnt have that horrible long cable or horrid buttons & it has a decent clip aswell. Finally the E5 can also be used with any Mp3 Player not just limited to ipods like the E1.
If Fiio Re-made the E1 with a normal cable ,Clip , better buttons & a Lock button then it would deserve 5 stars

I bought this product after the jack cable socket on my ipod failed. I had the thought that I might be able to bypass the jack completely and feed the sound through the line-out. Sound amplification wasn't my reason for buying it but it works well and sounds great through my in-ear earphones.
There is the problem mentioned by other reviewers in that its almost impossible to use the clip on the reverse of the control without pressing the skip track button but other than that the volume controls and pause work well.
If you've had the same problem as me, when your mp3 jack connection has worn out and you can only hear sound through one ear and its not a problem with your earphones, this is a good alternative without having to invest in a brand new mp3 player!

This product is great ! I finally can hear my music on the ipod without difficulties and can turn the volume
to a degree I like, without the disgusting EU volume limit. The only thing that is unpractical: the remote control
has a unneccessary forward/backward function that is sometimes touched by mistake, when you try to adjust the volume. But otherwise - everything good. Perfect Volume and good sound.
