This unobtrusive little DAC does a fine job in providing quality audio from a Virgin V+ or TiVo box with a TOSlink optical cable as input and an RCA-RCA cable to your amplifier. The unit comes with a 5V power supply but if you have a spare USB-miniUSB cable it's preferable to power the DAC from the V+ box (they are only ever switched on together & a mains outlet is saved).

Purchases from AV Shop. Description says FiiO D3 with WM8805, instead FiiO D03K Taishan with CS8416 is delivered.
WM8805: jitter 50ps
CS8416: jitter 200ps

While layout probably plays a bigger role then chip, the description explicitly says WM8805 and you'll get the inferior CS8416 chip.
I'd purchase it from a vendor who is honest.

Setting this aside the product seems well build, metal enclosure is nice in this price range. However there are a couple of <30 quid dacs which feature the same chip and will most likely produce similar results.

A brilliant very small DAC with a toslink and coaxial input. I connected this to my Apple TV and pretty respectable Naim audio system TV and was astonished at just how good this DAC is for such a modest outlay.

The converter is perfect for connect Optical sources to older devices with RCA or 3,5 Jack (You need a special cable)input.

I ordered this because I have Virgin HD box and there is only optical audio output on it and my old old 5.1 audio system only can handle Stereo RCA or Jack input. So this converter is the perfect solution.
The converter is so small, smaller than a credit card and about 1 cm thick. So you can hide away easily. It is came with it's DC power adapter and a really clear user manual. (other cables not included)

What I did: I connected the converter with an optical cable to the set-top-box and on the other side I connected the converter to my audio system with RCA cable.

Works perfectly, good quality and crisp sound on my speaker system. The converter convert the digital signals into left and right analogue signals. So my speaker system can make 5.1 sound from these.

I would recommend to anybody.

Connected out of my Virgin box, using a 9 foot toslink optical cable, into my old analogue surround amplifier. It's given it a new lease of life, sounds better than ever. The unit is tiny and does come with a power supply. This has to be the best value DAC yet.

Best priced dac around, twenty quid is pretty good. Sound is good going through some creative t4os attached to an LG plasma. Had initial thoughts as other buyer regarding break in period because sounded flat at first, but now fine. Worth the money.
