On 27 August 1979, Paul Burns’ life changed forever. Travelling through Warren Point in Northern Ireland when the IRA detonated two massive bombs, he was involved in a devastating explosion--eighteen soldiers were killed that day; Paul was one of only two who survived. His story is a remarkable tale of one man’s determination to make the most of his life against the odds.

This review is from: A Fighting Spirit (My Story) (Paperback)
I read this book a few weeks ago and could not put it down. It was an inspirational story about how a determined young man overcame severe injury inflicted by the IRA but went on to achieve such a lot, with grit and determination. We all have bad times in our lives and none could be much worse than those that Paul suffered but he rose above them and I think we could all take a leaf out of his book. I have bought another copy to give to my grandson for Christmas who wants to join the Army. I highly recommend it.

A Fighting Spirit by Paul Burns,
This review is from: A Fighting Spirit (My Story) (Paperback)
An up to date book showing the courage & determination of a young soldier whose life was shattered at only 18 years of age. This tells the story of how, through determination & guts, he has not only survived in his world but has gone on to help many many more others worse off than himself. Paul shows us all how we forget what we have & take for granted. Paul's story must give other young servicemen/women, who have been injured in recent conflicts, hope for the future when things must look pretty grim. It's a must be read book that would make a great present for those of all ages. DP

It is an injustice to be only able to give this book 5 stars. At last, a book that tells it as it was. The courage of this man is a thing that will have you reading each and every word, more than once. What happened on that fateful day, is a thing that none of us should ever forget. This man is a true hero, and a man that we can all look up to. To call this book..A Fighting Spirit..Is an understatement if ever there was one. I would have no problems at all in giving this book to someone, no matter who that may be. Paul Burns'. I wish you all the very best in what you are doing my friend. You give us all a thing to aspire to, And that thing is, determination.............Good on you mate!!.
