good diagrams. 9 Feb 2009
Format:Paperback
If you are learning medieval swordfighting after the syle of Lichtenauer or Ringeck, then this very well illustrated guide will explain the basic guards and attacks, which is particularly useful as the original manuscripts for the technique were non-illustrated and written in medieval high german rhyming couplets..! In essence this is book 1 for anyone learning western martial arts, german longsword, and will serve as a handy reference for home practice between training sessions however, early copies were not that well edited, though the author and publisher will be improving on the book and adding more content in later editions. The 3D black and white diagrams are good though, and the minor grammatical mistakes are easily ignored. Print quality is ok. It comes in an A4 paerback booklet format which means diagrams are a good size. Well reccomended as a handy reference for a beginner.

A great primer 19 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a great introduction and reference to anyone learning this fighting system. It covers a lot of ground with the basic techniques in good details and some more advanced techniques in brief. Great value and makes the system accessible, while referring closely to the source texts.
