Quite simply a great book. This is one of the funniest and most informative books I have read in a very long time and a must read for avaiation fans or those with aspirations.
Mac tells it as it is and then pours his personality into the mix which gives it a unique flavour that touches the reader in so many ways. A good test of any book is if you enjoy it to the very last page and I can honestly say I was sad it ended. A very hard book to put down and left me wanting more.

As a man that rarely finishes books, to get through this in a matter of weeks is an achievement. Very inspiring and insightful. A must read for any aviation, armed forces, or adrenaline enthusiast.

As other reviewers have commented Mac tells a very colorful and highly entertaining account of his years leading up to and finally flying the F18 Hornet. What I liked about the story and Mac is that he doesn't take him self too seriously. I have already recommended this book to my friends and family.

Wonderful, laugh-out-loud reading 2 Oct. 2012
By John McKenzie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I have never written a review on Amazon before, but I just read this book in one sitting and it is truly outstanding. The author has an ability to write with disarming honesty and hilarity about his life in the Royal Australian Air Force as an F18 pilot, from his earliest fascination with aircraft to his eventual leaving the RAAF. The book is written in a way that focuses on the people (and their escapades...) rather than the technical aspects of being a fighter pilot in the Air Force and it brought back many memories of the places, traditions and people of the RAAF. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

A brilliant read. 15 Sept. 2012
By Mirv - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I'm not usually moved to write a product review on Amazon, but I will do so here. This is an outstanding read - I do read a lot of quality aviation books but this is up there with the very best.
Serge's passion and commitment to being a fighter pilot are self evident, but what really makes the book is his ability to spin some hilarious anecdotes interspersed with some very reflective and disarming honesty about his own journey. You do get a real sense of who the author is. He pulls no punches.
Even when I find something that is written down funny, it rarely causes me to physically laugh. However, there were stories in this book that had me wiping tears of laughter away whilst reading it at an airport baggage carousel. People were staring and trying to see what the hell I was reading. Highly recommended.

Great Look Behind The Scenes 12 Aug. 2012
By Barry Moore - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
A lot of mythology surrounds being a fighter pilot, both good and bad. Serge takes you behind the scenes to give you a very funny, warts and all view of what it is really like. From the frustrations of dealing with the 'blunt end' of the spear (politically driven admin types) to the drunken antics of the boys when they are out to unwind.

Funny, witty and real. Have a read, you'll love it.

Funny, amazing & frankly honest view into the mind of an RAAF F18 pilot 3 Oct. 2012
By Grant McHerron - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
What happens when you give a 20-something adrenalin-junkie the controls to a high-end combat jet then base them in the middle of nowhere? A fantastic insight into the mind of an RAAF F-18 pilot who lived to fly and partied hard with his squadron mates. From the early days of learning to fly through to being one of the elite Fighter Combat Instructors, Serge confronts his own attitudes & insecurities as well as the entrenched military bureaucracy. Finally leaving the RAAF to avoid "flying a desk," Serge discovers that airline flying is not what he's after either, an all too common result for combat pilots who just want to fly.

From start to finish this book keeps a steady, enjoyable pace as it describes the amazing situations and crazy activities Serge has experienced. Well worth reading & highly recommended.

A very entertaining and enjoyable book. 31 Aug. 2012
By Ian Gonsal - Published on Amazon.com

Serge joined the RAAF pretty close to the time I was leaving; but this book demonstrates that some things don't change much. I could instantly identify with his entertaining and enjoyable stories and the memories came flooding back. Strap yourself in and just enjoy the ride.
